? ? Then everyone here who posts I.C codes is guilty of practicing law.

There is a difference between offering comprehensive legal advice, and that of copying and pasting a relevant statute.

There was a thread just recently where a member said a dead cop had it coming for serving a legal warrant. He is still here. Why would most LEOs want to stick around where comments like that are acceptable.

I think the cops got it right a long time ago when they turned the derogatory term "Pig" around to stand for "Pride, Integrity, Guts, Service."

Now if we could only get all those nasty lawyers, plumbers, lemon pie bakers and TV tire repairmen to clean up their professions we'd all be better off. :)

Like everyone else, we like guns. I've heard worse. I have a pretty thick skin, even though comments like that are pretty crude.

    Yup!
And if anyones bothered to look at the frequency of Active/Retired LEO's posting on INGO they'd notice that our input has fallen dramatically within the past year.
I've asked some of the active duty LEO's that I know to join INGO. Not a single one has taken me up on my offer.
The reasons given for not wanting to join here were summarized by one Officer: "I can be called names anytime I'm on the job. Why go somewhere like that when I'm off duty and get the same treatment?"
Scutter, Spamso, Expat, Irahm, and several others, have made posts here that point out that LEO's are targeted by certain "people" on this forum for ridicule, vitriol, and downright hate.
I'm not going to quote all of them, but they are all correct.
I stay here because I've made a bunch of acquaintances that I enjoy talking to.
In fact I spend more time here than I do on my own web site for just that reason.
However I've come to the conclusion that certain sub forums are populated by people who's primary reason for existence is to argue with, **** and moan about, and belittle, anyone who doesn't agree 100% with their particular view of life.
    I now avoid those areas!

I don't want to say "Why can't we all just get along..." but...

I think everyone deserves a modicum of respect until they show you otherwise, not dependent on their job or position in life, but as a Human being. :dunno:

    Ok back to Lurking now......:n00b:

It would be nice. But, being sterotyped here is just a chance for some to vent their frustrations.

I used to post a lot more, now I mostly just lurk. To the OP, I have talked to many of my coworkers about disarming legally armed citizens during traffic stops and non criminal encounters. When I asked some of them why they do it they really didnt know other than that was what they were trained to do. I choose not to. If you have any questions feel free to PM me and I will try to answer them the best I can.

If you believe in the second you have to believe in the first.

This isn't the public square. It is a privately owned bulletin board system. So there is no 1st Amendment issue. you must have missed that day in school. Comments that are seen as acceptable here are seen as reflecting on the attitudes of the owner and mods. At least that used to be the stated policy here.

I have nothing but respect for LEO's until such time as an individual does something to take that respect away, but it would only be for the individual. As a medic, I have seen what they put up with, not only on a day by day basis, but an hour by hour basis. People call them for help but yet yell and scream and call them names when the help they give is not up to the standard they felt was due them. (mostly because their hands are tied by the law).
They are enforcers of laws, and by the very basis of that they are subject of hate and vitrol.
Everyone always talks about thanking the firefighters and soldiers for their service but no one ever talks about giving respect to the guys in blue who have to do the job that we don't want to do. Do some mess up?- Sure they do, but so do the "heroes". Does Abu Gahraib ring a bell? How about FF that get arrested for child porn or theft or DUI? We don't hold the whole of the military or the Fire dept for the actions of a few. Neither should we hold all of Law Enforcement for the actions of a few.
I hereby lay out a challenge.. The next time you see a LEO.. thank them for what they do, I am sure it will mean as much to them as it does to the FF or the Soldier/sailor/marine/airman.

Why not thank everyone for what they do? They are all chosen professions, no? I see no reason to provide special thanks to any one type of job. I'm sure anyone working any type of job would appreciate thanks.

[STRIKE]To Serve and Protect[/STRIKE] - No, they don't say that anymore...

    Generate revenue for their locality?

General revenue for their county??? I can only assume you have no idea where ticket money goes to. Take a look and follow the money trail.

I have made some friends here and have met several in person. To answer a couple of questions directly pointed at LEOs, yes we often don't say a lot pertaining to certain topics because it might not reflect the views or SOPs of cities or townships, no I don't have a tank because we are NOT swimming in money (That was a posted quote), no I didn't wake up this morning with the idea of violating your rights and I am not a domestic terrorist. Each of these questions have been directed at a police officer.

I am disappointed with with some of the comments made on this thread. All officers have to pass a complicated traffic and criminal law course prior to becoming an officer. Updates out the wazoo. Training in other courses and subjects, yearly. Take care, Lonnie.

I treat everyone I meet with dignity and common courtesy. Respect is earned, not given freely. I have very few individuals that I respect. As I haven't met everyone yet, that list will probably grow somewhat. There are LEO's that I respect, others I do not. There are engineers I respect, others I do not. If the actions of an individual should not reflect negatively on a group, neither should merely donning the same attire confer positive accolades either.
