Environmental disaster in the making. Everybody aimlessly driving around looking for a virtual bit of data.
    DOJ needs to sue Nintendo.

Pokemon Go is taking the world by storm, for sure.

And yes, that means that Pokemon Go is officially more popular than porn.

Wife plays it, I'll admit she's gone out a few times after the munchkin's in bed. She tried to play the "I participate in your hobbies, you should try mine" card which didn't fly given her participation level in mine (for example: she grudgingly goes to the range if she's in a good mood, well rested, doesn't get warning to get stressed out about it, and I beg. She's been to ONE autocross.) Perhaps my views will change but staring at a blank wall is higher on my list of things to do than get lured into games like that.

My son just walked out in front of a car looking at his droid tablet. Stupid game. I think it was a parking lot and he's fine, just wasn't paying attention. Five years old.

Not to be "that guy", but how is that related to the game?

We don't blame guns for people doing things with them...

Honestly not trying to come off like a jerk here

A few days ago I noticed people stopping there vehicles in front of my house and messing with their phone. There was also about 3 cars an hour driving around and stopping for about a minute at the church across the street. I didn't have any tin foil and my paranoia kicked into high gear.

I concluded the church had become the spot for cartel dead drops. The people out in front of my house were taking notes on there phones to orchestrate a home invasion and attempt to kill my family and myself.

To avoid a "No country for old men" situation I decided not to investigate the suspicious activity's at the church. If there was a big bag of money I know I would take it, ending with my family and I murdered.

This will not stand, a hardened perimeter must be established. As I'm taking measurements of the picture window for sand bags, the wife sees me struggling to do basic math and asks WTF. I inform her of the cartel and probable murderous home invaders. She tells me they're probably just playing Pokemon.

Put off by her lack of understanding of the danger of the situation I retreat to the front yard. Out in the wilds of the front yard I start to mark areas for excavations for tiger pits. While outside I see a neighbor go confront a vehicle at the church. Foolish this direct approach might be, I'm all too interested in what Intel the neighbor has come up with.

I flag down the neighbor and after a brief interrogation he was able to discern that indeed pokemon has been plaguing our neighborhood. With this new Intel I go tell the wife she was right. She had the gull to actually do a little dance with her I told you so.

So I don't know anything about this game or Pokemons in general ...

    How does it work?
Is it creatures that are put at random places around you based on your phone/GPS location?
    Is it worlwide?
Can some appear in my neighbor's backyard or in the middle of a busy street?
Will more people jump the White House fence just to catch Pokemons?

    :dunno:

I honestly can't speak to how this new game works because I don't play it. However, when I was a kid this was a big deal. It was a gameboy game that was a big deal where you caught these pokemon which are creatures and you make them battle. You could also battle your pokemon against a friends pokemon by connecting your gameboys together with a cord.

What I know of the new one from my younger brother telling me about it is that you keep catching these pokemon and thats how you "advance" and make you pokemon stronger rather than fighting. As well as there are many other things that are different. I could go into a huge explanation about this and mainly the old game however, if I had to guess with a little google fu you could find out wayyy more than I know!

    1. It's pretty basic right now. Just a collection game with very minor competitive/progression aspects.
    2. Yes, they are randomly in populated areas. The locations aren't specifically chosen by the developers.
    3. Probably not worldwide, but civilized areas with an established app store/play store selection
    4. Since it's essentially random, yes. The roads are mapped out in the game, so they will pop up randomly while driving, but the app must be open. People doing it while driving are doing it knowingly and intentionally. It's not a passive game.
    5. Pokemon, currently, aren't unique or special in special areas. There was some inclination that super rare ones would be a timed event to gather people to them in the early commercials... so maybe they'll place those sorts of things in special places. But currently, completely random. If someone chooses to jump the WH fence, it's just random luck that something there was considered "worth it" by them.
