    so why were they attacked?

Not knowing anything beyond what you see on the video, I will go out on a limb and say that the attacker attacked because she has low self opinion and is afraid (of what, hard telling). I bet she attacked because she felt that doing so would prove to herself and others that she had value and was strong.

I am not making excuses for the attacker, she needs punished. I just think that the attack was probably motivated more out of a sense of worthlessness and insecurity than racial hatred.

The attacker explained her rationale perfectly clearly on her Facebook account (which appears to have been deleted) Her words (my paraphrase) were that's what they get for being in a black park.

That probably plays better on facebook than her posting "I am scared that nobody likes me and I don't feel like I have a place in the world because my family situation is ****".

I am not one to get the whole racial deal stirred up but if you spend some time in the area you will see that either reason played into this.
We (white) can not walk freely through those areas with out being looked at harshly, spoken to harshly and possibly attacked in the same manner. Not every area that is mostly of color but most of them.
Yet, they expect free passage where ever they go. Again, this is the mentality of the thugs, thuglets and so on. I have seen this so much. If self esteem was in play here so was race.
Now, please direct your flame throwers over in the corner.

Uhhhh, I'm going to have to disagree. I know a number of people that used to go down there and play frisbee golf, and they've never been run off.

Apology's Kut.....I was not speaking of that area particularly but some of the streets around there you need to have your head on a swivel. I was in that area a week ago looking at 2 projects for a house flipper. Had a few interesting conversations with the locals.

We're the people you know unescorted young children? Otherwise it doesn't really apply. Growing up near that neighborhood I can vouch for the fact that they mostly prey on the weak. We learned to travel in packs, kept us out of these situations most of the time.

Most of these teenagers today are already serving prison sentences, be it at home, their school, or their communities. It is time to hold some of these parents responsible for the actions of their children.

I'm no parenting expert, and maybe the parents share in the blame. But I wonder if part of the problem is that kids are not expected to be more responsible or held accountable for their actions just because they are kids. Kids need to learn that they are young men and women, they need to be responsible. Seems that we have a problem across our whole culture, regardless of race or income, that we tend to let kids off the hook too easy. Kids need to learn that actions have consequences, or they grow into irresponsible adults. :twocents:

With the revolving door policy's both juvenile and adult in the system there is no accountability either at home or by the system.

I think young children of any background know not to be in Brookside by themselves.

Yep. I'm tired of hearing people say things like, "Whatever happened to personal responsibility?" but then a teenager does something wrong and they want to jump right to the parents.

I understand parents do have a degree of responsibility because they are responsible for raising the child and how well they do that affects how the child behaves. But does being a crappy parent in and of itself make them criminally liable? I'd say in this case, no.

    Parents?
The odds are that dad is absent and/or unknown; mom is in her 20's and either working long hours for low pay, involved in crime, or in jail.
She is likely being raised by an aunt or grandmother.

Oh, and she's "basically a good girl who just fell in with a bad crowd."

Its a societal issue. Todays youth listen to propaganda starting with parents, its on tv, radio, the interweb, school, friends. Even this website (not everyone but many) pushes out hate (mostly towards Police and Government... example of agenda and propaganda ). The parents aren't involved especially Daddy (probably long gone in many trouble kids cases). We have removed God from every aspect of our lives and wonder why this stuff happens. Than excuses get made and people don't get held accountable ad we are shocked when they repeat the same behavior.
