Finally was able to get this completely tore down this morning. Off to the machine shop for a hot tank bath, pressure testing and magnaflux. This will be a long build, but I need to get this step done so I know the block is good.

This one just moved under its own power for the first time in over 30 years!!!! Amazing how easy these old cars are to drive, once you get past the double clutching to downshift into first.

Technically a hole in the block and a freeze plug are the same thing right?

I have never ever had a freeze plug failure in an engine that was maintained as in a properly treated cooling system. This is an indicator of other or even much deeper issues.
Rebuilding high miles engines and knocking out the freeze plugs none of them were thin or loose.
I had a freeze plug fail in a Ford truck I bought used and the system was full of raw water. Thing was a freaking mess but I stole it and was going to tear into it anyway.

I measured the rod ends and was sorely disappointed. Pressed the pistons off and went to the machine shop where I used to build the Hot Rod Harley engines.
    Resized the big ends.
Back to my shop. Pressed the pins back in and have 4 in the holes. 4 to go.

I showed the young man I am building this for and all he could say was.....that looks awfully dirty........Oil dip nozzle....that is oil.........:faint:
