Not really relevant to the conversation, but I have known several "self proclaimed" Atheists over the years. They were, without exception, some of the unhappiest individuals I have encountered. Always angry about something........

This has been my experience as well.
Not directing this at anyone here but just my personal experience.

If someone comes in they should have something to offer and not be an anchor. We are dragging enough anchors right now.

I am much more sympathetic to that justification for keeping immigrants/refugees out than many of the other reasons I hear lately.

The terrorist issue is on my mind as it should be but the economic impact will be serious enough in my mind.
There are areas this money could benefit our people or....."Just do not spend it"

I like that Jim Jefferies quote "you'll pray for me? Could you possibly do any less?" Ha

It's sad that some people go though life and never realize what is truly real. Prayers are real and the most you can give someone when you have given all you can and there is nothing left to give.
Jim Jefferies has clearly never had to give of his emotions that far, I pray he never has to.

I'm all for helping out refugees--with private money. Just like it's not the fed's job to transfer wealth to those seeking welfare, it's not their job to hand it over to non-citizens.

I'm ok if Syrians want to immigrate to the US. There's a process for that and they should do it on their own dime.

What we have now is a mass immigration disguised as refugee-relief operation. This needs to be stopped.

You know the old saying: There is no such thing as an atheist in a foxhole.
Very true. I think faith in "something" is important. I had a gentleman give me a religious pamphlet yesterday, and I thanked him read it. He was bein genuinely kind and as a human I recognized that. I also won't throw it away. Why? Because I do believe there is something out there and I don't want to be the shcmuck that pisses it off :):
my faith has been tried by personal experiences, anger, and despair. But I'll never be closed minded. Never say never unless you know for sure, and as long as you have faith in something I think it allows you to be positive in any situation. Eventually. It's up and down for me.

I've always had this thought that, if aliens ever did travel to the earth, the last thing they would ever want to do is to take any humans back to their planet.

Picture a peaceful alien race that live on a nice earth-like planet, and they bring a group of humans.

    What could possibly go wrong?

I picture "Nuisance Human Removal" businesses popping up all over that planet.

"Are you bothered by humans knocking over your trash bins and getting into your attic? Well then, just call Klondike 368 and our staff of trained human removal technicians will come to your house and get rid of those pesky humans........."

I'm not so sure any alien race would be all that different than us. I know we watch Star Trek or Star Wars and like to believe as we progress as a race, we'll become some sort of secular, kumbiya, benevolent, peace loving sort like they have or maybe another advanced race, to become advanced, figured out how to do it first. I tend the think the galaxy will be more or less like us. Maybe, more likely like the Klngons, The Empire, or the Borg.
