great match mongo and crew! the stages were freakin awesome. i felt there were two good options at most stages and not just 'the right one.' i snuffed the classifier and count me in as a +1 for pucker factor....the chili was ok too....i remember when i wore the hickey mark as a stamp of greatness, now i try to cover them up.....

Nice job Coach. It must be that "old age and treachery" thing. Or was it the "old bull vs young bull"? You showed the kids how to shoot the whole match.

    Outstanding Kevin!

Now that appearance is a possibility in November. I finished 5th in production and pullled 4 mikes on the last two stages. I'm starting to get this inner competitive juice flowing and I know I can do better. Probably if I would have had 1 second slower times on those stages I would have been clean.:xmad: I felt like It almost came together for me today.

Thanks Coach and Rhino for all you have helped me with through this year.

Well last week I left my holster at home, today it was my front sight and running shoes.....I might as well been shooting from concealment and using cover (no offense Jim)

    Master Class my a$$

Well I did manage to accomplish a few things this year:
    Had 3 AD's
    Got DQ'ed
    Made Master Class

unfortunately none of those things were on my list....

Here is some video from today

Great job to Daniel and staff for a very good match and stages. Nice job to Coach, Kyle and Derrick for reminding me why I need to look into Cowboy Action Shooting. Anyone want to buy a limited gun, less than a year old, has eveyrthing, and the sights are like brand new, only used during make ready (sometimes)

It has been a fun year, with a lot of great shooting. It has been fun to watch everyone progress and get better in the process, I wish I was one of them.

I have learned a few things, fat, drunk and slow is no way to shoot a match.

I do leave you to ponder this question:

How does a master class shooter only shoot a master class classifier and tank the rest of the stages?

Hopefully old age and treachery will keep me a thorn in the young ones side for a while yet.

Mike is is going to click at some point, just keep working at it. Over emphasize the points until it does.

Should we have a contest to come up with Jake's Cowboy Action shooting name?

On tactical note, The video does not really show this. However, I saw several do the speed shoot this way. People shot the steel first and then went back to the single paper target. Many times the two shots on the paper would be a dap tap without looking at the sights nearly enough. The fastest way to shoot such a stages is left to right or right to left. Coming back to the paper is more gun movement and therefore slower. Plus the sights need to be used on the paper, and you should be aiming at the Azone not the whole target.

Hey Jake, ever heard the term----- Call your shots?

I have often wondered how folks that bandy this term about can have any misses or even D hits for that matter.

If we are calling every shot, then either we didn't make it up or we had no misses.

And no misses are pretty rare.

I understand the concept, it's just that I rarely see it put into practice by anybody for every shot, every match.

Ya know Bill I agree with you I know no matter how hard I try that I do not see my second sight picture most of the time and I feel that most people are the same way. And for those that are going to say well I do I can always tell that I had a miss and I make it up. Well I say good for you. You must be going real slow. But as we all know if we will admit it or not alot of them are how the shot felt. Not what you actually saw or did not see. Also I believe that most shooters are relying on there grip to bring that muzzle back for there second shot up close it works but as we all know out past 10 yds were in trouble. Thats my :twocents:. Weather you agree or disagree It doest matter to me. All Im saying is if the top 5 shooters in a division ran a stage in 15 sec. and someone runs it in 10 they did not see thier front sight on all of thier second shots. Its all most impossible if your going to compete.

One can't say one calls every shot unless you don't have any misses.

Unless, I guess, one would choose not to make them up.

IMO, if one has any D hits or misses at the end of a match, a guy can't say he called his shots. At least not all of them.

I have often wondered how folks that bandy this term about can have any misses or even D hits for that matter.

Knowing where it went is not the same as making it go exactly where you want. Calling is just knowing.

If we are calling every shot, then either we didn't make it up or we had no misses.

And no misses are pretty rare.

I've made lots of "calls" just barely on target (eg on the edge of a head shot) that I opted not to make up that became mikes. The call might only be off by a an inch, but turns a B into a M. I've had it go the other way, too, where I called an M just off the target and ended up w/ 3 on the paper after making it up. It's a matter of how precisely you can call the shot and the distance/difficulty of the target. And I've called blatent misses or NS's that I opted not to make up because I felt making it up would hurt my score (eg shooting on the move where making it up would require backing up due to 180, etc).

I understand the concept, it's just that I rarely see it put into practice by anybody for every shot, every match.

the GOAL is to call every shot. It doesn't necessarily happen for every shot, 150-300 times per day. When I fail to call a shot, that's usually the target I miss. I certainly call more shots today per match than I did a year ago, and I hope to get closer and closer to calling 100% of my shots. It's great when the RO is scoring and all you are doing is confirming he scores it the way you called it... no suprises.

Penalty free should be the goal. The better you learn to call your shots, and the more consistently you actually do it, the more often you'll finish penalty free.
