I have a challenge for most of you. For years we have heard people like Richard Lugar called 'RINOs'. We need to come up with a catchy name for lukewarm (at best) gun owners who refuse to stand up for their rights, believe that getting run over is right and proper, and at the end of the day would accept any insult, infringement, or de facto cancellation of their rights in the name of following some twisted idea of proper social order and 'politeness'.

Evansville of course, the police down here are very understanding

Alright then. We will go to the petting zoo, buy individual hot dogs and OC. When someone asks me if I would conceal, I'll tell them to pound sand.

Gee whiz. Feels good to be surrounded by winners. I'm one of the guys now.:noway:

No, we're not going to the zoo. Splitting a hotdog is still on the table.;)

Why would you be rude to them and tell them to pound sand?

    Stretching the analogy a bit..

I was thinking more along the lines of educating people on Rights etc.

i.e. Rosa Parks didnt hide in the back of the bus..

Well of course I was, but you issued a challenge that didn't include requirements.

Still, though, I don't believe "shove it down their throats" is always the best way to educate or to win hearts and minds. If you're ok with the "screw you, it's legal and I'll do what I like" thing, it doesn't matter, but if you really want to make things better... Well, you can make your own choice. It's not the way *I* would do it if I were running the gun desensitization campaign.

You are making the same mistake Steelman is making..

You are assuming that an OCers response will be "screw you" "pound sand" etc.

I have something like this more in mind..

"I am sorry, my intent is not to offend or scare you, I am just exercising my legal right to carry"

OMG. THEY DO NOT KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DEATHS BY LICENSED GUN OWNERS AND BY CRIMINALS. THEY ONLY KNOW THAT A GUN KILLED SOMEONE.
Ignorance is not an excuse to violate the law, so why should it be used as an excuse to violate rights?

Not everyone, but your average 2A fence sitter.
Not everybody is a carpenter either, what is your point?

Unless, you come up with some serious Mark Twain philosophical gold in your next post - I'm going to have to ignore you.
You're already ignoring everybody who has made a valid point in this thread, I see no difference between you using or not using the ignore feature.

*finger resting confidently on the button*
Go for it, ignore anybody who disagrees with you... This way you and those who think like you can exist in your own little forum sub-culture :).

Imagine that, I left and ran an errand and came back - still to find absolutely no facts refuted by Steelman :).

I'm not assuming anything about the words any particular OCer will use, but about the underlying attitude that it's better to shove it down their throats every chance you get. It's a strategy, I just don't know that it's the BEST strategy. I guess it depends on the specifics of what you're trying to accomplish.

Think of it this way. How long have we been going along walking on egg shells while the assorted domestic enemies of the republic shoved their agendas down our throats? How has that worked out for us? Whimpering with our tails between our legs saying "may we keep our rights? Please? Pretty Please?" hasn't worked at all well.

Some do OC just to help desensitize the public, and others OC just because it's the more comfortable/convenient thing to do.

I CC whenever I go into a hospital because that is one place that I particularly do not feel like being hassled. I also CC at the movie theater, again, because that is one location I do not feel like being hassled.

Anywhere else, I OC simply because it's more comfortable for me and in many cases I have no issues showing my LTCH to an officer of the law or explaining that my actions are legal to an uninformed individual.

A great example is when riding my motorcycle... It's a Super Sport and the seating position is not conducive to having a full sized 9mm handgun concealed and any method that would be comfortable would be impractical should the need to use the weapon arise. [And no, I am not talking about firing from a moving vehicle, drawing while on a moving vehicle, etc, so let's cut that stupidity off at the pass.]

The result? I OC while riding my motorcycle - have been doing it for over a year on almost a daily basis and I have yet to be pulled over or harassed by anybody for having my handgun clearly showing while minding my own business traveling down the road :). If it happens ... will I be annoyed? Absolutely. Will I go to jail? No.

Other then type some stuff on an internet forum what have you done to advance 2A rights amidst a gun fearing populace? Are you out there getting escorted from zoos for the great good of 2nd Amendment freedom?

Just because someone wants to be polite to the concerns of others does not mean they will not stand up for rights or believe they deserve to be pushed around.
One can write their Representative and vote and give of their time and/or money to help support what they believe in.
Sometimes it is better to pick the right battle to wage rather then fighting every perceived slight.

Rights? What rights? You mean the privileges the State gives one with a pink permission slip.

Repworthy. Unfortunately, this evil puppet system is denying my right to give rep. There's more than one way to advance and support the cause. Making up names for those who don't choose YOUR way doesn't help.
