Thanks Kevin. I've got a friend who lives out in Portage/Lake Station so I think I'll be heading over there soon. Blythes was nice but kinda too busy and didn't have time to just kick the tires and browse.

Agree, was at Valpo store the other week... could barely move.

Much prefer to buy second hand anyway but... that's just me. ;)

Jedi's Pink obsession AKA The Pink Godfather of NWI

In the summer of 2010 at the Meet & Shoot we have close to 40 members at the event and needless to say it was a mad house. At the typically events the shooting benches look like this:
    nwi-ingo_09-outing_128.jpg

members put out their firearms and provided you ask you can shoot just about anything on the bench. Well that summer with so many people you could NOT see the wood in the bench. There were so many handgun and rifles on top of that that it looked like one of those "gun buy back programs" with a massive heap of steel/plastic on the tables. Heck we even had rifles on the grass/cement pad as well.

It was very hard to figure out which one (especially the XDs and GLOCKs) belong to who just by looking at them you had to pick it up and really look at to figure out "Oh yes this IS my gun).

So at the next event some card tables came as well for the rifles.
So now you had some sort of semi-order like this:
    nwi_ingo_may_2011_0015.jpg

But still way too many black ARs and AKs that were just wood on metal.
So once again you had to look for yours among a more organized set-up.

This continue during the 2011 season until SadClownwp (an INGO member) advised that he painted using nail polish his handgun. So the engraved part of the slide had white and on a black gun it looked real good. You could "see" the text on the slide real easy and it looked very nice. In a pile of guns you could very easily see the black and white text gun!

Here is an example of what he did but with green.
    https://www.indianagunowners.com/forums/handguns/173738-i_zombified_my_m_and_p9.html

He offered to do that nail polish trick on any gun that came to the shoot but alas he only had white and neon green. If we wanted another color we had to bring it. So a few members did the white text and it was very nice.
I too opted for white text on my Ruger Mark 3.

But guess what once again with I had the same issue of gun with white text (mine) plus other guns with white text at the event. :faint:
So that got me thinking OK what color will none of these members ever choose? Being that 95% of our members are male I figured PINK. Heck even our girl NWI INGO member's don't like PINK (AutineB or example, LadyGhost. :D) So I figured OK I will redo the Ruger with PINK lettering.

& that is when I offically took the plung to make all my guns with PINK lettering so that I would know off the bad "hey those are mine" and besides perfect excuses to never sell the guns. WTH will ever buy a pink lettering gun. Not to mention if it gets stolen it's the gun with PINK lettering officer.

So this is what my guns turned into:
    https://www.indianagunowners.com/fo...sion/176192-firearms_with_pink_lettering.html

So it was all good & then when I got my safe to "continue the pink" I did this:
    https://www.indianagunowners.com/fo..._safe_to_real_pink_cadillac_johnson_safe.html

Read post #9 for more on why a pink safe.
    https://www.indianagunowners.com/fo...l_pink_cadillac_johnson_safe.html#post2104650

BTW this is what "betty" looks like
    1911_betty_01b.jpg

At this point I'm the one in the group that is willing to go with the pink and I'm fine with that.

So if you come to one of the meets and expect to be part of D
a Family it's best to bring some PINK BACON as tribute.

Thanks for taking the time to explain all of that. I hope to make a meet and shoot soon.

Aside from Debs and Winamac and I guess Blythes, is there anywhere I can go and shoot a pistol around here for preferably free? (I realise debs and blythes charge)

I don't fancy driving all that way to Winamac in my POS Toyota....or spending the money at a shop range...then again the money I'd spend on gas would probably equal the range fee.

& where on earth would we put it in Lake County?
Recall that SOUTH of US-30 while it's still LAKE county we only keep it around for the taxes and it's to ffffffaaaaaaarrrrrrrr! :D

But I'm all for wiping St. John off the map and making the entire area of St. John a natural perserve for wild animals and a DNR range or 2.

Oh BTW all the residents of St. John will we re-locate to Gary or IL.

I notice some of you gentlemen are interested in competitive shooting. I would be more than willing to meet up with you for a brief introduction to basics (rules & techniques), equipment, and safety. No shooting involved. We would just need about an hour and a place to meet where we could have unholstered guns around without inciting a panic (if no safe backstop available ... I have a training gun).

I am always willing to do this for anyone just getting started. I invited a freind once to a match. I didn't do much more than a brief explanation of the match and equipment. He drove over two hours to the match. He was DQ after firing six rounds in the first stage. It was entirely my fault since I invited him and fell woefully short in explaining the rules. I vowed never to let that happen again to anyone I invite to a match and to help any brand-new-to-competition shooter prepare.
I'd like to learn. Once it dries out we could do it at my place. I'll be moving some dirt around to make a new berm out back, with over a half mile of field behind it.

Napalm, try Willow Slough. Might be a bit closer than Winamac.

Thanks. Sadly my gun purchase fell through (or it might anyway). Wife says we can't afford it after all.

Glad I have a job now so all my money will go to pay her bills. LOL.

    I'm not bitter, honest.

Uh.... wives? Wait this isn't a swinger's site?

On a more gun related note:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=GB&hl=en-GB&v=AVKaKoPsGYw

This is a stupid example of the laws in the UK.

You can have an "AK47" but it has to be "straight pull". Not even semi auto. You can have .22lr handguns too as long as they have a stupid long piece of metal sticking out of the butstock to make them long enough to be a rifle.

    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIIql_VhENA[/ame]

    Long Barreled Pistols

    Here's a "1911"

I feel so sorry for my countrymen stuck shooting guns like these:
    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ytU1VVtG6k[/ame]

Oh and the only Semi auto you're allowed is 22lr:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&feature=endscreen&v=iUuMp6wfcHc

Presumably because its less deadly than anything else *purple*

    Straight pull AR15 in .223.

straight pull is single shot only... akin to a bolt action.

You have a charging handle on the AR-15 to eject the spent casing and feed a new round.

you can't see in the video but the GSG 1911 has a fake long barrel on there and a wire extension on the pistol grip to make it long enough to fall under the "rifle" rules.

Heres the wire rod at the end of the pistol grip
    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5H9QZ_PmY5E[/ame]

    and straight pull AR15
    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTHECgM1APQ[/ame]

You have to remember, a lot of these AR15s are used for fox shooting in the UK hence the big scopes.. It's not a legal deer calibre (i think that's over 243) so small "varmint" plus competition rifle. (yes people shoot rabbits with .223. You need a shovel to pick them up).
