So up thread it said New Jersey doesn't have any laws against incest. Does New Jersey have higher rates of incest than places where it's illegal?

Do you think people who weren't inclined to incest before will suddenly flock to it if they can marry?

Some laws reduce the amount of incidents because people fear punishment. Some acts are simply too far out of the realm of acceptable behavior for most people that a law isn't going to reach those who are willing to engage in the act to begin with.
Now that the closet has been vacated by gays, maybe in the future "in the closet" will mean you secretly want to do your sister/brother

Real or not, the fact remains that by the logic being advanced by the Courts all things within the realm of traditional reprehensibility are possible

Everyone can take a deep breath and forget about this nonsense. There is going to be no father/daughter marriage in New Jersey. It is not legal. While incestuous relationships may not be illegal, marriage between a father and daughter is illegal.

Q&A: Is incest really legal in New Jersey? | NJ.com

Why should it be? Whether this particular story is bogus or not...

Why should the State condone same-sex marriage, or binary non-consanguinal unions, but not any other possible combination?

Seems like irrational moralizing to me...

Speaking to the Moral Lobby: If you wish to ban incest for morality's sake, why not also ban adultery, pre-marital sex, birth control, pornography, and lust? Why not ban cursing and hateful words? Oh, and why not make going to church mandatory?

I bring this up solely in the context of human unions. Binary marriage between non-cosanguinal adults is okay, but other forms not? Why the arbitrary limit at two, and why not relatives?

Does the State have an interest in preventing congenital birth disorders? Yes, but do they test the general marrying/procreating population for such, or is this just a reserve argument for incest.

Yeah, if you want to deconstruct the concept of morality in general, then we'd better bone up on Hobbes.

You see, these positions are totally illogical. There is a lack of consistency so great that the entire arguments collapse.

The best response is to concede and say that there is no rational explanation. Just say: "I want to ban it cuz I don't like it." They should embrace that their civic worldview is guided by emotion, not by principles or logic.

Yucky? Well, that's not a valid argument agin' it. Plenty of people find same-sex marriage yucky, but aren't allowed to raise an objection to the legalization thereof.

If one believes in free human expression of love, how can one draw lines?

Incest is fine as long as you keep it within the family

All in the family is filmed in front of a live studio audience in New Jersey.

I am shocked and dismayed that this thread has almost 100 replies and no one has posted this.

What the church has done with marriage is the equivalent of a family turning over the security and safety of their home to the government. Sometime later, the government decides to change the parameters of the arrangement. Rather than taking the responsibility of security and safety back upon themselves, the family attempts to bully the government. Did the government hold up to their end of the bargain? Obviously not but why keep turning to them to manage something they've clearly proven incapable of doing?
