But, then, the NRA is not a monolith. Are those who spoke for the NRA and supported the bump stock ban still speaking for the NRA? NRA-ILA's executive director has the correct position now. The fact check is correct. But is outdated. It's a different NRA than the org led by corrupt schemers and supported by HOA proponents across the country.
To be fair both positions can be consistent.

You can think bump stocks should be regulated and not want BATFE to do it arbitrarily without legislation.

Would anyone else support a bill that would swap out bump stocks for suppressors on the NFA list?

Then the individual States carry on as the people of those States choose best.
You have more faith in people than I do. I guess I'm black-pilled as ****. How would that work out with a Governor like Holcomb. Or Braun for that matter. Pandemic! :runaway: Lock it down! People seeking power gravitate to the levers of power. But under the world you propose, instead of the governorship being a stepping stone to central power over states, it's the destination.

The central state won't dissolve itself.

    I'll take the smaller government.

As I recall, this was all a little more complicated than most want to remember it. As I recall, gun friendly Senators and Congressmen contacted the NRA and said that something was going to get passed through the Congress and be signed. There was no way they could stop it. This ATF rule was felt to be something that would release the steam with a couple of advantages. One, it would probably be unconstitutional And two, if not, another administration in the future could simply reverse the rule. I feel like this was discussed here back at that time.

I have explained this so many times and now it came about just as I told you it would. Trump stopped the republicans in congress from caving to dem gun control with this maneuver that was expected to be overturned, and now it is…
    This is, IMHO, gaslighting.

"Restore freedoms by infringing them even harder" sounds like something right out of 1984. And Trump had the veto pen, so he could easily have stopped any foolishness.

Trump could have kept the ATF from making the rule, how did that work out?

Provided for those that need to argue that Bump Stocks are not machineguns, here's a screen capture of the relevant piece of the decision syllabus that states it's not. Use this at will to bludgeon others who claim it's a machinegun.

Trump directed ATF to make the rule. Trump owns the rulemaking.
    Yep

“President Donald Trump is a law and order president, who has signed into law millions of dollars in funding for law enforcement officers in our schools, and under his strong leadership, the Department of Justice has prosecuted more gun criminals than ever before as we target violent criminals. We are faithfully following President Trump’s leadership by making clear that bump stocks, which turn semiautomatics into machine guns, are illegal, and we will continue to take illegal guns off of our streets.”

On February 20, 2018, President Trump issued a memorandum instructing the Attorney General “to dedicate all available resources to… propose for notice and comment a rule banning all devices that turn legal weapons into machineguns.” In response to that direction the Department reviewed more than 186,000 public comments and made the decision to make clear that the term “machinegun” as used in the National Firearms Act (NFA), as amended, and Gun Control Act (GCA), as amended, includes all bump-stock-type devices that harness recoil energy to facilitate the continuous operation of a semiautomatic firearm after a single pull of the trigger.

Republicans cave on liberty when the going gets tough? Not stand on the principles they purport to be staunch conservators of when the political winds change direction?

Of course they did. They always do. Everytime there’s a high profile shooting we have to worry that “conservaties” will stand up against the tide. They couldn’t even stand for individual liberty when covid hit and rarely are any of them ever held accountable for their treachery.

In fact, we’re quite possibly going to reelect the guy that commenced the ball rolling on both of these issues and he’ll seem like a blessing compared to the corpse in the WH now.

So…..when can I expect to be able to buy a Bump Stock? Even if I don’t have a rifle to put it on. Who makes’em? Where are they sold?……Anybody?

I wonder if Slide Fire Solutions will be made whole again and will get their inventory back along with what else the Government took from them.
