Police/security will not submit an official report for escorting someone out of a concert, or a bar. I have been removed from a few establishments in my military days for turning up a little too much.

You would think that an interview of the security guards might turn up a description of the incident in a thorough investigation, though. Somehow, that little anecdote just might be relevant to events that transpired less than an hour later.

Looks like he taped a note to that sidetable. No denying slidefire stocks, it has also been reported that he had multiple crank devices and at least one illegally modified fully automatic

That's where all the surefires went.

Re: the lady at the concert.
I heard the interview with the girl that she told was going to die. She sounded pretty clear headed. She couldn't described them more than a short mexican lady and her boyfriend. You are all going to die tonight. I know. I in on it. Or something like that. The lady had told enough people to get her removed from the concert.

I suspect that a motive will be forthcoming, eventually.

He may have left a note:

And, he apparently filmed himself (along with the hallway cameras that he had set up:

You're probably right , One old fat guy with NO military training pulled this off with NO help from anyone .

Case closed boys and girls seems like a perfectly plausible plan .

Anyone can check into a hotel, bring a few guns to their room over the course of a few days, bust out the hotel window and rain bullets down on a crowd from 32 floors up.
I'm not seeing what kind of special military training is necessary for this. 64 isn't that old, and fitness level is irrelevant to operate a rifle.

So, as I understand it, the bump fire (slide fire) stock does NOT turn a semi-auto rifle into a full-auto rifle. It does not allow multiple rounds to discharge with a single trigger pull. Rather, it merely facilitates really fast, but still one-per-round, trigger pulls. Perhaps the practical outcome is the same, with respect to sustained rate of fire, but I think it would be helpful to get in front of this terminology.
Sadly, no one but us cares. All they see is "OMG he fired all those rounds in seconds!". They ignore that the rate of fire was irrelevant to the outcome, lots of people injured/killed by a disturbed individual.

I personally think rate of fire played a significant role in the amounts of people killed and injured.

What makes you say that? He had a limited amount of time to fire. More bullets likely means more hits. Presumably that's why machine guns exist and are so popular.

People ignore the distinction between full-auto and slide fire stocks because it's an irrelevant one as far as their concerns go: they both give you similar rates of fire.

    I don't see why it wouldn't.

I know being pedantic about legal definitions of firearms jargon is the raison d etre for shooting enthusiasts, but the practical result is the same and we had better be able to articulate why these things should not be made illegal with an argument other than "it's not fully automatic" or "what part of 'shall not be infringed...'" or they are gone.

I like the argument made earlier in the thread.
    He had an airplane.
Would people feel better if he flew it into the crowd? Would there be calls for airplane control?

Actually, he had over 70 minutes to fire. The outcome would have been the same, with or without bump fire-assisted rate of fire.

He had 70 minutes but he only 10 to 15 with a bunched up soft target. The bumpfire helped him, and the crank devices helped him. No if's and's or but's to it. Seems like he had switched to the scoped standard buttstock rifles at the end with the placement of everything.

I agree, from the audio he was dumping rounds and fast. It sure would be nice if we could just wish away things that are capable of such damage and prevent anything like this from every happening again but reality has shown that to be impossible. Prohibition doesn't work, with anything. I'd say controlled substances are about as controlled as we can get and we still have an epidemic of addiction to them on our hands.

Laws can't and won't fix this. Laws do nothing but provide a false sense of security for those unwilling to face reality and provide for a nice incarceration industry in the process. Society needs to fix this but that is an uncomfortable conversation that will never happen.
