Mikey says he'll drink that water If he was there. Yet the Governor of Ohio hasn't even been there personally that I know of yet.
If I was a resident, and he came I'd demand he drink a big tall glass of city water.

The news conference by DeWine at which the NewsNation reporter was arrested was in East Palestine, DeWine was there quite early in the timeline

Can’t remember if it has been addressed here already, but here’s a video that is making the rounds, purportedly to show horrendous tracks in Ohio, in September of 2021:

I’ve never seen such a thing and I can’t imagine that’s actually real. Real tracks in that condition would definitely hamper the railroad’s ability to make money and would be fixed rather quickly. Unless we are really at that “Atlas Shrugged” stage of deterioration?

This is what Penn Central looked like in 1974; six years after the PRR-NYC merger and four years after PC declared bankruptcy.

Rock-and-Roll at 20:10 on the Evansville Secondary, an ex-NYC branch originating at Indianapolis that terminated at L&N’s ex-C&EI Wansford Yard across US41 from the Evansville Airport.

It can be argued that PSR (through deferred right-of-way and rolling stock maintenance, and through inadequate maintenance and operating crewing) could lead NS to a repeat of PC’s “Atlas-type” condition from 1974.

Chilling thought as the FNC anchor interviewing Mike Pence stated that the train that crashed came through Indiana on the way to the Ohio crash. First time hearing that... :nailbite:

I know that a train carrying a car of Methyl isocyanate (Bhopal India disaster) used to travel through the region once a month, not sure where else it traveled in IN. Don't know if it still does or not.
The epa says everything is great, but they also said they buried pools of "free liquids" to get the tracks up and running again. No one is making that up,they said it themselves.

"Five railcar tankers of vinyl chloride were intentionally breached; the vinyl chloride was diverted to an excavated trench and then burned off. Areas of contaminated soil and free liquids were observed and potentially covered and/or filled during reconstruction of the rail line including portions of the trench /burn pit that was used for the open burn off of vinyl chloride," the EPA said in the letter.

The quote from the letter is correct, but the EPA didn't say everything is great. They were informing the railroad of what had been seen and telling them they(railroad) will be responsible for clean up costs. Here is the letter.

It's real, but it's a 10 mile stretch through a swamp that takes empties to and from a storage yard.

They really should just put those folks up in a hotel until this gets sorted out better, and help them keep track of thier expenses involved. The government does that much for people who are not even Americans every day.

If the government can put illegals up in a 5 star hotel in NYC, I don't think it's too much to ask for them to put these citizens in a Motel 6.

    Clickbait rail Terrorporn. Ignore them.

These arent mainline rails. Im a minor railfan and tend to watch these videos all about trains. (dont get me started on the big boys... steam powered 2-8-8-2s. Absolute monsters. Anyway...)

They are seldom used spurs to places like a solitary sawmill that might ship once a month or so. They are only pushing a half dozen cars down this rail to grab product before taking it to the yard to be added to that mile long annoyance that makes you sit for 30 minutes at the high speed rail crossing.

As long as they take their time and keep it under 10MPH, its perfectly safe for that mile long section. And the worst that happens is the train derails and sits upright for a bit. They bring in stuff to clamp to the rails to bring it back on track and an hour later they are running again.

Bottom line, Ignore this in this context.

I do not like the source...but.

EPA Administrator Michael Regan sought to reassure residents who are skeptical of testing results that say the air is safe to breathe and the water is fit for drinking around East Palestine, where just under 5,000 people live near the Pennsylvania state line.

“I’m asking they trust the government. I know that’s hard. We know there’s a lack of trust,” Regan said. “We’re testing for everything that was on that train.”

If it is not cleaned up and testing is still ongoing...how do can anyone say it is safe?

I'm sure testing is going to be going on for quite a while quite possibly years, especially groundwater testing. I'm guessing current tests are stating that the air is fine and the water is fine. In 6 months the water may not be fine, it takes time for the chemicals to perk through the soil. Saying that testing is ongoing and that it's safe to return home are not mutually exclusive.

That's also not saying I trust the govt...

I posted in this thread about 60 miles south of the burn pit. https://www.indianagunowners.com/threads/train-derailment-in-ohio-and-chemical-release.532015/page-7

Since that was 60 miles south,by a municipal water company how can anyone believe the water closer is ok to drink, even if the EPA says it is so? 60 miles south they are using hundreds of pound of activated carbon to remove contamination, but at the actual site they just say it is ok to drink.

Logic would say the water at the source is contaminated,no matter what the EPA is saying.
