    Could be anywhere
That would be continuous and consistent gibberish to you mister.

And I'd prefer someone coherent, experienced and principled over either of those choices. Of course, that option is unavailable at this point.

Great use of Rule #5 from Rules for Radicals.

When you aren't using a teleprompter, it is possible for your train of thought to get derailed.

    It's funny.

It's just how he talks. Obama says "uhh". Trump rambles. Clinton processes the bits into lines of speech that gets fed out to the speaker.

With apologies to Longfellow, inspiration struck me this past weekend. I'll just leave this here.

Listen, INGOers, and try not to jump,
At the Midnight Ride of Donald J. Trump.
Twas the Seventh of November, Twenty Sixteen,
And hardly an eye has ever seen
The depths that year of the American slump.

He said to Manafort, “If the Clintons lead
    Along the eastern seaboard to-night,
Shoot me a text because I will need
To make some moves to save my fight.
A dollar here, two dollars there,
Money is the fix, the best repair.
I’m ready to spread the alarm-
Divide with fear and unify with charm,
Until every American is ready to arm!”

Then he said a “good night” with a muffled roar,
Folded into his limo for his final chore,
Just as the moon rose over the line
Of planes and helos of every kind.
For the jet set class to rise and soar
Over the rest of us, the middle and poor,
Including the main stream media corps.
But the electorate is fit to be tied,
    With every difference magnified.

Meanwhile, Manafort, through alley and street,
Wanders and watches, with eager ears,
Till his phone rings and confirms his fears.
Just released is a compelling poll-
With reposts and texts and more than one tweet,
    Clinton’s headquarters erupting with cheers,
    More election night rigamarole.

He pulled out his phone and hit the messaging app,
Wrote a text to his boss, who was inflight,
Then pulled up a browser to check the website.
    Politico, RCP, and HuffPo’s crap,
Data flying like an owl from its perch,
Trending upward with every Google search,
His feet were taking him deep in the shade
Between the tall towers where shadows played.
He paused and focused and looked around,
And spied upon Trinity’s hallowed ground,
The ghosts of Americans there displayed.

He paused for a moment in contemplation,
Of the time since these had been sent
To lay in peace under a monument,
Watching in quiet the growth of our nation.
He wondered if they were well-pleased,
If their sacrifices had been appeased,
By those who would seek to rule
But often drained from Freedom’s pool.
The living were filled to satiation
With no regard for government inflation.
The Tree of Liberty appeared diseased.
But the future was shadow and distant,
    The repercussions, non-existent.
    Opportunity for profit and gain
Benefited all those who would remain.

Meanwhile, impatient to win the morrow,
Trump looked down on the lighted borough.
He reflected anew on what he had wrought-
Had his policies been too narrow?
Could he achieve what he had sought?
It didn’t matter, what’s done is done,
There was still time for the deal to be won.
    His eye was drawn to the funereal spot;
His mind withdrew inside the web he was caught.
The turns of phrase, cutting sarcasm,
Burning of bridges across the political chasm,
Will it be worthwhile, just and true?
    Or in vain, another “F-you”?
    Tonight was the final escapade,
To make sure the votes weren’t too few,
Riding to battle in a black Escalade.

A flurry of texts, emails and tweets
Greeted the candidate and his staffers,
While the stage was filled with techs and gaffers.
    Barricades bounded the streets,
    Police abounded at every entry,
    Secret Service provided sentry,
    Personal guards were supplementary,
Watching the audience fill the seats.
Reviewing his notes and writing checks,
    Thinking about all the effects
His campaign was ready to turn in.
    He’d accomplished so much,
    But still couldn’t touch,
That which he set out to win.

It was nearly showtime at the event.
Advisors and handlers at his side,
He was satisfied with the speech’s content,
He’d done all he could to prepare
For his greatest speech if he could dare
Speak from courage and not from pride.

The show began at the event.
The audience hung on his every word,
They all knew exactly what he meant.
His laugh lines all right on cue,
    His paraphrasing and clarifying
    Worked to perfection, electrifying.
    Rhetoric established, nothing new,
    They loved everything they heard.

The show then ended the final event.
    Applause and laughter would confirm,
That his movement would not relent.
He had ignited a burning across the land,
Across time zones and time it would expand.
    His supporters after would affirm
    That he changed the nation,
    Maybe even the world,
    Much to the GOP’s consternation,
Amidst the tumult that now swirled.

None know yet how this will end,
What the tea leaves may portend.
But this we know without a doubt-
That politics has turned inside out.
For years to come and maybe longer,
    Perhaps America will be stronger.
Or maybe, just maybe, there is a doubt
What our country is all about.

Through that night will fight Donald J. Trump,
Offering up his shouts of alarm,
His smiles, hair, and Wharton charm.
When your children ask of the American slump,
Remember where you were that fateful night,
The last pitched battle of the campaign fight.
    His speech will echo evermore,
From border to border, shore to shore.
In our darkness, peril and fear,
With speeches delivered on every stump,
    Our memory will ever revere,
The Midnight Ride of Donald J. Trump.

Say goodbye to the Mateen story.

Trump suggests the "2nd amendment people" might be able to prevent Clinton from picking a SCOTUS justice? Or "do something" about her picking? Unclear what he was getting at.

I have a feeling we're going to hear Obama/Clinton talk about "dangerous rhetoric" here soon.

Second Amendment people should be sure to vote for Trump so he can pick better constitutionally true judges. See? Easy.

And that's how I expected it to sound when I listened to it... but it really doesn't. I think he just spoke without thinking again.

Trump is a bad politician. He's needs to obfuscate and outright lie and massage the message if he wants anybody to vote for him.

.... and, job well done. Doesn't matter if he was joking or meant it... it's now what the usual media crowd is talking about.

This is why he will lose.

Clinton gets a pass on Mateen

I'll take a little incoherent gibberish vs a teleprompter robot any day.

I kinda doubt that. If the tendencies were reversed, and Trump were the teleprompter robot, but still sending the same message, I strongly suspect you'd still be quite happy with the message, and you'd be poking fun at Clinton for *her* inability to add-lib two coherent sentences. But since Trump is the one with that tendency, you're not fond of people poking fun at it. But it's not the way the message is sent that draws you as much as it is the message and the messenger.

It's okay to say that. It's okay to say you don't care if he babbles. And it's okay to poke fun at him for doing it. It's not like you'd cost him anything. You're certainly not going to cost him Trumpers. You owe him no loyalty. I'll say it again, you can poke fun at the guy you're going to vote for. It's actually healthy.

    :stickpoke:

Just kidding. Perhaps a more poingient chord has been struck than this:
For years to come and maybe longer,
    Perhaps America will be stronger.
Or maybe, just maybe, there is a doubt
What our country is all about.

    But not many.

Hmm. Now. I realize that Carly did a bit of non-GOPe acting, and that she's not as non-establishment as she campaigned to be. But still I don't see her as an establishment insider to be able to land a gig like that. I do think she might be good at it.

A democrat PAC is calling for Trump to be arrested. The hard-lefties and some soft-righties are saying he went too far, and a President cannot incite violence on people.

Trump camp says they were talking about the "will" of the 2nd amendment people to vote.

The **** he says, even NOT as President, is already bringing negative attention on 2A.

Need someone prominent to come along and spin this just right to drop the coverage.

It doesn't matter what he said, anything that can be twisted, will be.

Meanwhile, a Democrat can say, "get in their face - they bring a knife, we bring a gun", and the media doesn't bat an eye.
