What you're basically saying is that you're judging someone before they were politically engaged or cared about politics in any serious capacity beyond a means to achieve a goal.

I have never run for political office. Yet I have some pretty well set personal values and beliefs for where I want the republic to go. I have stated them and others may go back and quote me. In fact, if I was running for office I would have to assume they would. If they were inconvenient for the group of people I wanted to vote for me today I should assume that my simply saying...well that was yesterday and it made me money...would be considered a good enough argument? At that point why would you believe anything I said; EVER.

I am judging him based on his past actions and statements. If Stalin were resurrected, and said he's a born again conservative and should lead the R party and be POTUS I would look at his past actions and statements to see what I think he would do in the future.

Instead of Is Trump a Democrat, let's argue something a bit different. Following up on an earlier point of mine, who here thinks Trump would truly put America before himself? In other words, if he faced a choice between what was best for the republic, but it meant hardship for him or his family, what do you think he would choose? What do you think his historical judgment has been - the greater good, or himself?

The last president to really put America before themselves was probably Lincoln.

I liken Trump to someone like Michael Moore, Piers Morgan, or Shannon Watts coming out and claiming they are suddenly pro-2A... and want our votes to make them more powerful. Because they're suddenly pro-2A, and they promise to help us.

Cruz spokesman just called Trey Gowdy a "fool" on FOX News. How is that a winning strategy in SC?

Come on Cruz, don't screw this up. You need to still be around in case Rubio doesn't make it.

The Ugly Truth About Marco Rubio And His Gang-of-Eight Amnesty Bill - John Hawkins - Page full

    Some highlights:

"Back then, Marco Rubio sounded like Jeff Sessions on immigration,

I am strongly against amnesty. The most important thing we need to do is enforce our existing laws. We have existing immigration laws that are not being adequately enforced. Nothing will make it harder to enforce the existing laws, if you reward people who broke them. It demoralizes people who are going through the legal process, it’s a very clear signal of why go through the legal process, if you can accomplish the same thing if you go through the illegal process. And number two, it demoralizes the people enforcing the laws. I am not, and I will never support any effort to grant blanket legalization/amnesty to folks who have entered, stayed in this country illegally.
Unfortunately, even though Marco Rubio is only in the Senate today because he claimed to be in favor of securing the border and stopping amnesty, his position shifted 180 degrees and he became the front man for the Gang-of-Eight amnesty bill."

"Getting beyond the Gang-of-Eight bill, as late as June of this year, Marco Rubio was openly saying that he wanted to make illegal aliens citizens. However, today he tries to muddy the waters about the subject by merely saying he thinks illegal aliens should eventually be able to get green cards. Of course, people who havegreen cards are allowed to apply for citizenship; so it’s the same difference over the long haul."Rubio also now claims to oppose his own Gang-of-Eight immigration plan.
During the last debate, he said, “Here's what we learned in 2013: The American people don't trust the federal government to enforce our immigration laws, and we will not be able to do anything on immigration until we first prove to the American people that illegal immigration is under control."

"That’s all worth keeping in mind because Marco Rubio wants to be President and he’s promising to get tough on illegal immigration. If he’s telling the truth, he might be a decent candidate. If Rubio’s lying, it doesn’t really make much of a difference over the long haul whether you elect him or Hillary because his immigration policies would permanently cement liberals in power without securing the border or doing anything of significance to stop illegal immigration.
Put another way, if Marco Rubio becomes the President of the United States, the future of our republic depends on Rubio telling the truth this time after he already lied about the same thing to people who walked over broken glass to get him elected."

That whole lying and reversing your position thing. Didn't realize Marco was a Democrat

No. It's not. I'm not sure there is anything that will turn them off. It's not about Trump's ideology. Trump, actually isn't very ideological at all. He's very pragmatic. He says he's going to make America great again. That's it. **** you, winds of change. Hallelujah. Vote for Trump.

I can't tell if there's implicit purple or if you really believe Trump bullied the pope?

I have to admit, the perfect comeback to
    "Christians don't build walls"

    was
"...says the guy surrounded 50 ft walls."

Built a couple hundred years ago.... :)

But, yes, that is a solid comeback. I also doubt it swayed the Vatican's response one iota.

How much of this is just SC muckracking? I mean, some of the nastiest internecine stuff seems to come out in that primary.

These Cruz campaign attacks are really, really dumb.

Now they're going after Rubio's campaign for having a staffer that backs marriage equality.

.... Completely ignoring that the Cruz camp has staffers that feel the same way.

Cruz Campaign, Which Is Attacking Rubio, Has Advisers Who Back Marriage Equality, Too

I don't like this stuff. There's plenty of real issue stuff to talk about and up until a few weeks ago, Cruz and to a certain extent Rubio were staying above this crap. Like or not though, this sort of stuff works and that's why they're doing it.

Right now everybody is just hoping to have a seat when the music stops. When it gets down to a two or three man race it will get down to specifics
