Well, if they skip it, it's on them, and unleash the dogs of war! I'm not thinking it should be as long as it took to describe it, just a breezy little dialog with a couple of short sentences to let them know how not to come off as a richard. Failing a conscience, let 'em have it.

    Outside the coup
Think I'm going to try something this week. I'm going to mark all posts as read then log off tonight at midnight and stay that way 36 hours. At noon on Wed I'll come back and do a post count. I'm going to count threads (not individual posts) that are actual discussions vs WTS/WTB/WTT posts. Since every time I look at the Unread Posts page I have to sort through tons of classified posts just to find something to actually read. I want to see what the actual ratio is.

Well, my 36 hours turned into 64 hours. I would like to give a very warm thank you to MATE and Caja for taking a :poop: during this process. Oh well, I was thinking about a new distro anyway. :abused:

Anyway, I've got my numbers. I marked all posts read at midnight on Tuesday and came back on at 4pm on Thursday. I counted only the threads that showed up in the "unread posts", not individual posts. I only counted the classifieds that were prefixed with the black WTS/WTB/WTT like they should be. If someone didn't prefix it then it didn't get counted. I was looking at it from the point of view of what we have to wade through to read actual content instead of classified posts.

    Total pages = 18
    Total threads = 534
    Classified threads = 187
    Non-classifieds = 347

So during this time 35% of threads were in the classifieds.

The simple solution to this problem is eliminate the post count criteria. Make entry to the classified section to site supporters only. This would generate more income for the site, while removing the issue of tracking and smacking runners by the mod staff.

Well gee man....what fun would that be. Having a fly swatter and not being able to swat any flies.

Seriously, That is not a bad idea.

My favorite classified are the ones where the guys joined 3 to 5 years ago and haven't posted anywhere else since they hit 50. A few weeks ago I opened 10 ads in a row before I found one that wasn't a classifieds squatter. There are so many. I have seen 3 rifles in the last few months. I would have bought on the spot if I saw a site supporter badge. One in particular I want really bad. I almost messaged and told the guy I'd buy the gun if he became a sight supporter. But I did the usual and skipped over the ad. I'm pretty sure it's still for sale.

If you don't post anywhere but the ads section I won't buy your :poop: period. I know others feel the same way.

These days when I see something I want I 1st check to see if I have had to warn/infract the seller.
If I have sometimes my reception is a bit cold. Conversation is minimal and I have actually been ignored.

Get with the program folks. Follow the very simple rules. If you do you will only hear from me if you have something cool for sale.

Oh.....I clicked on your sig line......hilarious.....:):

    Hey Church-
This Cheeseburger thing. All I have to do is insult you? :dunno:

    Seems to be the case.
It all started over a year ago when a now banned member called me out in open forum. Before my time as a mod.
Called me an internet bully. Complete douche.
I tried to settle the situation and offered an Olive branch....in open forum.
I asked him to meet me at a pub of his choosing for a burger and an adult beverage on me. We could settle our differences as men.
    He declined. Total douche.

Since that day the cheeseburger is a staple on Ingo.
I have probably spent a couple hundred $ buying burgers at FTF gatherings.

It would. But I can't help but think what we have is better. someone with minimal funds may not want to pay then use the classifieds once in a blue moon.
