Getting the front suspension finished up. The 1979 1/2 ton front suspension donor was a great addition with the 2" drop spindles, disc brakes and drop shocks. The motor will be getting set in within the next two weeks. Once the weight is there we will know which springs to go with that gives us the stance we are looking for.

I have the Three row aluminum radiator with shroud and 16" Spal fan ordered.

I have decided to replace the transmission too so the complete drivetrain is new. I'm torn between sticking with the TH350 or going with a 700R4. A lot of street rod forums are saying that 3:42 and 3:73 are great setups for the 700R4 transmission. I just installed 3:42 gears. My driveshaft will have to be shortened 3" but the yoke is the same. It is a column shift for a three speed so that is another issue there.

My husband originally didn't have an overdrive transmission in his 1983 or his 67 pickups. Both have been changed out for the 700R4's. So much better to drive and better gas mileage.

Stock the 700 is mediocre at best and will not live long behind the stroker. We used these in my sons Z28 and his Monti Carlo.
There are some very nice upgrades available. We preffered the 3.73 ratio with The OD trans.

I had 3:73 gears in it but changed them out when I rebuilt the rear diff. It is now sporting the 3:42 gears and a new posi unit.
I went with 3:42 because I was planning to run a Th350 trans. The spare trans that I have has been sitting for 14 years and was rebuilt by my BIL that also did the work on the 327 that was all doinked up.

Now that I'm going to have to buy another transmission I'm considering going with a beefed up 700R4. The tire profile is also pretty short (around the 28" mark)

I'm currently looking at a Monster HD 700R4 conversion kit thats good for up to 500HP with 3 yr warranty.
