I never did metal work, but in school did woodworking. I enjoyed it. I've thought about getting back into it, but I have enough expensive hobbies as it is.

We made center punches in metal shop. When I turned mine in, the teacher gave me an A, but said he would turn it into an A+. He set the cutting tool too low and promptly bent my punch. Instead of giving me the A, he made me make a new one. I was less than thrilled.

I'm sensing a recurring theme here on shop class. I took home ec (I like to eat). I'm not even sure if the school I went to offered shop class.

This may explain zip ties being my go to for fixing things.

3D printing is something I've been curious about for some time. Old guns often have internal parts that are unobtainium and were made of metal, but could be made of a tough plastic like nylon.

There are metal 3D printers, at least there were a few years ago. They were expensive at the time. Then again so were plastic based 3D printers at the time. So they probably have come down since then.

I had to take typing so I could take the computer classes in high school.

I have this kind of stuff in mind. Fun little projects that I can pick away at for a few hours here and there. Make custom gifts for friends and family. The garage is my place of zen.

Me too! Took typing in HS on a manual typewriter. First computer class I took at Purdue and used boxes and boxes of punch cards.
