i was of a similar mind until I shot a CZ 75 compact with the Cajun Gunworks upgrades.
Still love my Glock 19 and shoot it very well, but the CZ has smoothness and softer recoil that was unexpected.
i now have my own CZ 75d compact that's Cajunized and its a real joy to shoot.
I am with you Brett, love my Glock 19, but also my Rami, P-O7, and the P-O9. And will again own a couple more.psyko

I'm toying with doing a 9mm 1911 build and am looking at the Colt 01992 as the basis of the build. For a cost of $696 NIB, I would be looking at a fairly mild build with basically using the frame, slide and barrel, but replacing the fire control parts, grip safety, thumb safety, slide release, grips and MSH. The goal would be to build a decent range gun, not a carry gun. Would a Colt make a good starting point for a mild project like this? From what I understand, it has a forged frame. I can't find much on the barrel composition though. If not Colt, then what else? The Springer RO would work, but I don't care for slanted serrations. I don't think Rugers or Remingtons are forged. Maybe CZ will have a GI 1911 in 9mm by next spring, when I'd probably start this project.

    Thoughts?

Rurers/Remintons are not as stout metallurgical.
The RO would be my choice.
Or a Fusion Frame/slide/barrel and do the slide as you like it. It would be close to the same money.

That would be interesting, but I'm not sure I want to tackle a frame/slide fit or fitting a barrel with this. I'm taking small steps here :) I'm not even sure about going with a steel pistol instead of going with stainless. Stainless is much easier for me to work with since refinishing does not become an issue like it does with a blued pistol. But, Colts need a lot of elbow grease to sand out the really heavily blasted areas on their stainless pistols. I'm not seeing a lot of options for stainless full sized 1911s in 9mm though.

My P07 Duty is done. It will be home soon. Spouse will start her re-training with it.
It will be the recipient of the 1st can when all the paper work clears.
