Wonder how this affects civilians on bases. My dad is a higher up civilian side employee at CRANE NSWC
Should still have to go to work, pay might be delayed though.

Unfortunately your money was spent a long, long time ago to pay for other people's crap. The money you're being paid is the SS money from, say, my parent's generation and mine at this point. Snake eating its own tail and all that. I hope your wife can get the care she needs: I just wish you could pay for it with the money you earned and invested instead of checks with other people's money being paid back to you without any interest whatsoever!
Bull. Had our politicians used the money as it was intended it could have worked out. Or had we been able to invest those contributions ourselves it could have worked. But they raided the funds to pay for a mulitude social handouts to many who never paid any taxes. The average worker will never get out what he paid in. Many have died before drawing any benefit. I've worked full time for 40 years. Never been unemployed wouldn't even know how to file for unemployment handouts. Now as I approach retirement I see these kind of comments from younger folks all the time. The system is broken and it needs to be torn down. But when you pay $250,000 to $500,000 into this SS scheme over a lifetime it'd be nice to at least get a thanks and a cup of coffee, because when it all comes crashing down that SS check might only buy a cup of coffee.Unfortunately your money was spent a long, long time ago to pay for other people's crap.
