And every brick and mortar in the area benefits.
Kroger's sells the shelves clean in a couple of days.
Home Depot loads out snow shovels and ice melt like mad.
    Gloves and long johns,
Gas tanks are topped off etc and so on.
    French toast sales peoples.
I just got home from Meijer, and wasn`t even thinking the zombie mobs would out in force yet...boy was I wrong. No gallons of milk, just a few half-gallons, bread looked like that area had been looted. Meats picked over and looked the same, like it had been looted, and the store was packed, and the check out lines LONG.

I cannot believe no one has started taking bets yet; let everyone guess how many inches of snow we might get, and the closest gets...a pound of thick cut bacon!

Don’t worry guys I took care of it. The snow blower was trapped in the shed behind the Dixie that’s dead and tonight we got it out. So that means it won’t snow now. I doubled down and made sure the plug was fresh and it has fresh gas and fired it up. So now it won’t snow the rest of the year

From all the recent experiences we have had with this and folks still wait.
This is not directed at you sir. Just people in general. At least 20 right here on Ingo have said and done the same thing. And I would wager that number is much higher.
The hoards start to move at the 1st reports of impending disaster.

Same, I’m bringing the hoe and skid home tomorrow so I’ve taken care of our area.

NWS is usually fairly accurate but vague - in excess of 4"

...WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM WEDNESDAY EVENING THROUGH
    LATE THURSDAY NIGHT...

    * WHAT...Heavy mixed precipitation possible. Total snow
accumulations in excess of 4 inches and ice accumulations in
excess of a tenth of an inch possible.

    * WHERE...Portions of central, east central, southwest and west
    central Indiana.

    * WHEN...From Wednesday evening through late Thursday night.

    * IMPACTS...Power outages and tree damage are possible due to the
ice. Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions
could impact the morning or evening commute.

    * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...There remains some uncertainty on the path
of the storm which could impact precipitation types and amounts.
My problem with NWS is it seems like they are afraid to commit. I’d have a hard time betting on how much we get, but I’d bet you 5 pounds of bacon that they will increase their number as the storm approaches.
This approach does not really help one plan ahead for outside work.

I told my wife the same thing earlier. I plan on getting everything staged tomorrow since it’s apparently going to be a sunburn advisory... so because I’ll move the snowblower into the garage we won’t get any snow.

Went this afternoon to pick up salt for church and a shovel for my daughter. The hardware store was down to just 10 40lb bags of salt. I grabbed 4, that should be enough to make it through what we may get this week.
My son works at a grocery store and he says he pretty much had his butt kicked today
