Ukraine is not going to hold Russian territory, except temporarily.

Should strike, hold for a bit to cause disruption, then withdraw.

Then, after a bit to rearm and reorganize, and let the Russians react, strike somewhere else.
    and repeat
Been reading The Art of War again? Sun Tzu would approve.

Funny thing, a LOT of... nay, probably MOST OF Sci-Fi books are actually historical stuff, but rewrapped in "futuristic" technology.

So, I've read a lot of historical books, especially WWII, but also a lot of Sci-Fi, which causes me to then research the events of the Sci-Fi.
Such as, one book took place in Space, but the fights were based on the events of WWII fighting in various islands in the Pacific.

So, I would read the sci-fi, then go to the history of the WWII battle, and make comparisons.

I know it doesn't make me a general, more like an armchair strategist.
And it is always easier to criticize, than it is to DO.

But, being an armchair strategist, Ukraine can NOT fight a war of attrition. It can not fight the Sov Union on it's own terms.

Granted... I thought the war would be over in 7-14 days.
So... I will concede that I know very LITTLE.
    :)

Logistics and technology sometimes defeat the military art. The American Civil war started out with many generals using tactics from the age of Napoleon, even though accurate ranges and reliability of firearms had improved. During Napoleon's time his successful tactics were getting unreliable against steady, fast firing British troops in linear formations still using muskets. Everybody started becoming more "cover conscious" and digging in as the war progresses although the use of the mass column charge was used successfully at Spotsylvania, but at a terrible cost and very little return.

Ukraine is cutting off gas from Russia. This is likely in retaliation to Germany ending all war funding, but it effects 6 countries including Poland(northern and western states).
Ukraine rewarding their allies by freezing them to death in the winter.

Today's big news, F16 and one of Ukraine's six F16 pilots lost during the recent Russian missile barrage under supposedly unknown circumstances. Head of the Ukrainian air force has been fired amid claims that the F16 was shot down by a Patriot system. All the authorities will say is it wasn't shot down by Russia.

Only six pilots and one didn't even survive what was practically the first combat sortie. Oof.

I'll have to disagree with you on that one, to me art is inspiration, and how you make use of your tools. Logistics and tech are the tools.
They are part of the art.
The same as paintbrushes and paint are part of the art of an artist.
It all works together. And how it flows together, is the art.

The tools you use, and the logistics of getting there with what you need, will determine the 'art' of the battle, and it's technique.

So, as technology changes, so does the 'art of war'.

Those people that forget that, are the type to send waves of men into machine gun fire.

Every advance in war, has necessitated a change in tactic/strategy.

The front is teetering on the edge of collapse but they have MLRS ammo to throw away on terror bombing random drivers?
The cool-headed strategist in me agrees with you 100%. Imagining that those pictures of the latest atrocities imposed on Kharkiv were really taken in Fort Wayne or Indianapolis would my blood boil, and all thoughts of waiting for the dish of revenge to cool off before serving it to those Russian animals forgotten.
