It’s been reported that the charges were dropped and the records sealed. If the police can release the evidence, exactly what was sealed?

Perhaps the prosecutor choosing to hide the evidence to protect the guilty and his co-conspirators isn't binding on the police. And good for them.

If he had done something minor and was up on a misdemeanor charge, I could see doing something like this for a first time offense. For 16 felony charges, not so much.

CWB Chicago is really doing a lot of the legwork on this story. They researched and found 8 recent cases with 1 felony charge each (not 16) and not a single one was handled at all like Smollett. The prosecutor's office claimed Smollet's treatment was because his crimes were non-violent, but none of these 8 cases were violent either. Six resulted in guilty pleas and two are still ongoing a year later.

That’s just the whole thing in this case. There was no admission of guilt required even though the prosecutor’s office admitted they believed Smollett did it and there was plenty of evidence to back it up but this deal allows Smollett and his representatives to proclaim his innocence.

On top of that this whole incident has already been scrubbed from the records. This isn’t like some simple local disorderly conduct case.

Smollett’s actions had potential for national reprocussions. Kind of a big deal.

    Absolutely no accountability whatsoever.

Does any of this affect the feds investigating the mail hoax?

    Basically, no.

There may be more political scrutiny of a decision to not prosecute, but my sense is that the feds won't be influenced by that. They make charging/nolle prosequi decisions in political cases all the time. ("Nolle prosequi" is the phrase for choosing not to prosecute.)

When does Foxx resign to take her position at the Obama Foundation?

You can just tell these people believe they will never be held accountable. I would so like to prove them wrong

I don't know why it took me so long to realize the reason Jussie's case was dismissed.

    White Privilege!

That's right. So many thousands of Caucasians have had their felony charges dropped, it's only right to drop the charges against Jussie.
