There's one huge difference between these situations.
With Smollett, the people who investigated believed, and still believe, that criminal charges are warranted.
I know I am stupid, so aside from the general jury pool of registered voters, subjected to voir dire , buy opposing lawyers, what am I missing?
Registered voters, driver's licenses, ID cards, etc.....but why would you assume the general jury pool would find him not guilty?

Clearly things happened behind the scenes to get this creep off the hook. So, perhaps my initial conjecture that his stunt was connected to motivating legislators to vote a specific way was not so far fetched. If he was working for some people to stage the event to get hate crime legislation passed, it makes sense that the people colluding with him would not want to be exposed.
