Have you never heard jokes like "What do you call eleven politicians killed in an aircraft crash?" answer "A good start"

Do you really think that the person telling that joke is advocating for a plane crash to happen, or wouldn't care if there were other (presumably non-politician and therefore 'innocent') people caught up in the disaster and killed?

Shirley you comprehend the humor in this. Do you think by posting it I am demonstrating solidarity with starving the Cossacks into submission? Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar

I do... and I see the difference between actual general dark humor, and quips that are oddly specific to an individual. Hence my initial questions.

For example... If I spent a few comments talking specifically about wanting a currently up-and-coming rising star in the political world to be beaten, or killed, or otherwise... that would seem a little weird to people reading it. But if I said something along the lines of gathering all socialists up into one area and... well, yeah, that's more of an ideological difference than what seemed to be a personal beef.

And because I know you baited that one up just for me... :)

Looks like some believe Smollett shouldn't be punished for his series of crimes intended to stir up partisan and racial enmity... and employing mechanisms of the State (police and USPS) to do it.

Nah, just a "cry for help", pamper and coddle him.

    Seth Mandel said:
Jussie Smollett royally messed up, in what’s beginning to look more like a cry for help than anything else. I don’t see how sending him to prison accomplishes that so I hope it doesn’t reach that point.

:yesway: and it is certainly not impossible that I have paid insufficient attention to extended context. I gave my reaction based on the extent of knowledge I had at the moment. I felt the comment to be along the same lines of "It's a good start" in the given example

I hadn't really made the mental jump to suicide, was more thinking about the 'lynching' subtext with him putting the noose around his own neck (putatively) and his being black. Looking at it from the gay/suicide/he might be going to jail/his career is over aspects I can see where you're coming from but the read I got on it still isn't one of sinister intent

I know nothing about, nor do I have any feelings negatively toward, Dead Duck.

I saw some jokes earlier that could be construed as anti-gay... which is fine, to each their own. Then saw one that felt like it was related to suicide (not uncommon among gay community)... but DD was quick to correct me: No, it was about murdering him via hanging.

Just questioning the sort of stuff people say "anonymously" on a public forum.

Edit: And I could be totally wrong. I don't necessarily follow his posting-style in other threads. Could very well be an oddly phrased "joke"

I think the DD in your post is Dead Duck. My comment was about how ridiculous I though it was to suggest this whole thing was a "lynching". Nothing more than that. Just sayin'...

What's shocking is that this dispositive information took so long to come out... only after the narrative was completely flushed down the commode. :)

Mailing a fake biological agent is really bad. I'm thinking it rhymes with weapon of mass destruction and/or terrorism.

Jussie may dodge the CPD interview, but I think the DHS will come to him. :)

I'm with you, GP... I heard it as a whistle... not a dog whistle, a real one. Just my opinion.

The producers already stated he was not being cut from the show. His job was not in jeopardy. He was too integral to the show.

We'll see about that. People say a lot of thing in the midst of a developing story.

...but seeing as how "The Connors" was picked up sans Roseanne, there is precedent for the show going on.

Gallows Humor anyone? ( I could have said Black Humor but I'm sure that would have been taken wrong even though it's the correct term)

Smollett - The guy's a Putz. I would like him to just go away. How he does that, I don't care as long as he's not here anymore sucking up more airtime. The dude's a drama queen....... literally. (see what I did there) We all know what he did. The fact that he's also GAY, irrelevant. The fact that he's also BLACK, irrelevant. The fact that he's also an ACTOR, irrelevant. But put them all together and he has the makings of a great "Walked into a Bar" joke. And to me, that's relevant because I like funny stuff.

Especially 3rd grade humor. That never gets old. - Why does Barbie have red boobs? Because GI Joe has Kung-Fu-Grip. :):

Do I wish death on this Smollett guy? No. If he suddenly died in the same description of his "Boy Who Cried Wolf"? Well then, gloves are off because that would be funny.
Am I ever serious? Sure. Example - Child Molesters or anyone harming, diddling or killing innocent little people. (no not midgets) I wish them the slowest and most painful death I could imagine.

I predict that Smollettgate will plague our lives for a long, long time without any meaningful resolution or justice for the liars and frauds, nor a hint of apology to anyone who has actually been the victim of violent crime. Yet another gift that keeps on giving.

Jussie Smollett's lawyers make 'Hail Mary' call to postpone grand jury

The “Hail Mary” call was made Tuesday — just moments before brothers Olabinjo and Abimbola Osundairo were set to testify before a grand jury in Chicago, a source close to the investigation told CBS News.

It’s not exactly clear what Smollett’s lawyers told prosecutors, but it was enough for the Cook County prosecutors to postpone the proceeding.

The grand jury was supposed to begin hearing evidence that could have resulted in the TV actor being indicted on felony charges of filing a false police report.

Testimony from brothers in Jussie Smollett case scrapped after "Hail Mary" phone call, source says

CBS News has learned that a last-minute phone call may have saved "Empire" star Jussie Smollett from potentially being indicted. Last month, the actor claimed he was the victim of a racist and homophobic attack as he walked home in the middle of the night.

Two brothers have now told Chicago police Smollett paid them to stage the assault.

A source close to the investigation tells CBS News the brothers were set to appear in front of a grand jury Tuesday. But CBS News correspondent Dean Reynolds reports those plans were abruptly scrapped after a "Hail Mary" call from Smollett's defense team.

    Exactly!
How much property loss and lives have been lost with that farce? Including all the police getting ambushed. And the thugs are still treating this as their "Golden Rule" even after the moron that started it admitted it was completely made up.

About the only thing I can think of that would get a prosecutor to pause a grand jury in a high profile case would be a promise of a confession/plea. Maybe there was some sort of professional courtesy that might cause the prosecutor to delay it, but that's about it.
