CPD questioning “persons of interest” Report says they are both African Americans and one has ties to Smollett.

CPD spokesman seems to be reporting that the two men are the same people shown in the surveillance photos.

Through s meticulous investigation, #ChicahoPolice detectives have identified the persons of interest in the area of the alleged attack of the Empire cast member. These individuals are not yet suspects but were in area of concern and are being questioned. Investigation continues.

2:50 PM PT -- Chicago PD has confirmed ... the 2 men taken in for questioning are the same men in the surveillance video screen grab. The PD confirms transportation records, along with interviews with Jussie and other witnesses, led to the ID of the 2 men.

The two men ID'd through taxi and rideshare records...

Sources connected to the case tell us the actor, not Jussie, was picked up by Chicago PD Wednesday night right after he flew into O'Hare Airport. We're told Jussie was brought in Thursday morning for additional questioning. Another man who was with the actor at O'Hare was also taken in for questioning.

So...the two guys in the video, who Jussie says were part of the attack, and the police believe were part of the attack, are Jussie's actor friends? Oh my.

MORE: Source states phone records provided by Smollett were a spreadsheet. He downloaded his phone activity into a spreadsheet and then deleted certain phone calls. “He did the [detectives’] job for them because then they only had to focus on the numbers he deleted.”

...As CWBChicago reported over a week ago, investigators already had Smollett's complete phone records via subpoena of his provider.

TMZ: Police are questioning an actor who has appeared on Empire, a second man who was traveling with that man, and @JussieSmollett today. So if tip is true, police have known for a week and have spent the time confirming through phone and taxi/Lyft records. Then brought them in for questioning.

Smollett was just on Fox 59 news and said he felt that if he had said he had been attacked by a Muslim, a Hispanic, or a black person, his critics would have been more likely to believe him.
I feel like that is not true.

If he had said he was attacked by a couple of Chicago street thugs, I probably would have believed it and we would have all moved on.

When he threw in the MAGA Country line that is what made me doubt.

Reminds me of my time in the jury box. The witnesses could not identify the accused until they put similar hat and sunglasses on them. All that showed was that they knew what the hat and the sunglasses looked like. Smollett doesn’t even know that much. At least he defended his sandwich.

Multiple soucres tell @ABC7Chicago Eyewitness News Jussie Smollet and the 2 men who are being questioned by police staged the attack - allegedly because his character was being written out of the show Empire.

Someone familiar with the investigation says Smollet was a no-show for an interview earlier today with detectives. All of this coming hours after Smollett spoke to @GMA speaking out in his first media interview taking aim at those who doubted his story.
