They receive money from the city, but I don't know how much. They are absolutely worthless and shouldn't be given a dime.

They have received well over half a million dollars over the past 15+ years. Not all from the city, but much of it still comes from government grants.

Goldsmith continued to champion Ten Point, which established a chapter in Indianapolis in 1998 with Harrison as president. The group got $50,000 in start-up cash from the city, though it would go on to survive primarily on donations and nonprofit and government grants. In its first year, homicides in the neighborhoods Ten Point patrolled fell while grant money rose—$250,000 from a variety of sources, including the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust, and pledges for an additional $300,000.

Since then, money and murders have fluctuated. In February 2011, the City-County Council approved a proposal to shift its authority to hand out Community Crime Prevention Grants—Ten Point’s primary funding source—to the Indianapolis Parks Foundation. Harrison says the change resulted in ex-offender programs getting a bigger slice of the pie than outreach operations like Ten Point. In 2010, the group received $93,000 in city crime-prevention money; in 2011, the year of the changeover, it got $31,000—and nothing in 2012. Last year, Ten Point had a budget of $179,000, which covered the $25,000 salary of each of its four paid employees; the rest is spent on day-to-day expenses (gas, transportation, and so forth). As a 501(c)(3), Ten Point is required to conform to the same accounting and filing standards as a church.

    But, but,
    we have to "raise awareness"

I think anyone that watches the local news on a daily basis is already painfully aware that there's a problem. The solution to that problem would be for people to work with police, but I just don't see that happening. Whether out of fear, or out of complicity, people are just not willing to cooperate to do something about getting the criminals off the street. That's compounded by prosecutors and judges that don't seem to have the cojones to KEEP them off the street.

What neighborhood on W side is the problem currently?

The one where these 4 homicides took place is on the edge of one of IMPD's defined "hot spots". One of WTHR's pieces claimed that you're 800 times more likely to be shot in that area than in the rest of the city (on average). You're 700 times more likely to be killed.

I have a few customers on the East side in interesting areas. I still get police escorts when I visit some of the companies I deal with in that area and look at the properties. More so that the owner wants it since he is with me, but I won't complain.

I used to take care of the refrigeration at the 88 market right down the street from where these "Folks" were shot. 24 hrs a day. If it breaks we roll....well, I rolled. No one else in the outfit was going down there after dark but me. Took care of the other locations as well. They are all located in war zones.
I never got a police escort.....what the hell is that.

Is IMPD ever going to release any info on this or are they hoping it will just quietly go away?
They will, there is certainly no rush. Their delay will be a result of their ongoing investigation. They certainly not sitting on it and hoping it will just go away.

Not until it won't interfere with the case. Nothing gets released without lead detective approval.

What is the reasoning behind this? Surely the ones who did it have to know that the good guys are going to be looking for them? Is it that there isn't a suspect or suspects yet? It just seems like if there were suspects, it would be a good idea to plaster their names and pictures all over the place. Not criticizing, just curious.

Sometimes there is nothing to say. Sometimes you want to pick people up by surprise for interviews. Sometimes you hold info so witnesses can corroborate. If the news says Jimmy did it and you say Jimmy did it that's not as credible as you knowing that info when it isn't public.

Not comments on this case. I know nothing about it and haven't tried to find out.
