In both sentences the word "cheating" needs to be replaced with something else.
"cheating" is dishonest by definition so it doesn't fit the sentence or the premise.

You would never say "It is like cheating but without the cheating."

I would suggest polyamory. Those sentences could become...

What I tried to say is that the result is the same whether you're cheating, or whether you're in a polyamorous relationship. You're having sex (and/or are in love) with more than one partner.

The only difference between the two is the honestly of letting others know of the situation.
It's why I mentioned (poorly, I give you that) a form of "honest cheating" in a ménage à trois situation.

I know in the US it's often wrongly translated as "threesome" where in reality it's nothing sexual.
It's what you guys call a "throuple", 3 people dating each other.

It's way less shocking than cheating on your spouse ... like millions of people do.
In a ménage à trois everybody is aware that 3 people are involved.
