    In the deep south, checking the river after a big rain meant no fishing pole, but a rifle.
    Just in case you spot a big gar that got stirred up.
    It was legal back then.

    Addendum:
    Gar is good eatin' BTW. Taste a little like gator, but more tender.
    You start the instructions for cleaning a gar with," First, get out the circular saw and make sure the blade is fresh."
