I am now fairly certain that I won't be able to come to the walk. tunrns out I have a group of young people to watch while another important event happens.

I'll try to make the meeting though. Can we make it more centrally located?

    Ryan,

What sort of venue is at 1200 Madison? Can I come heeled?

    Harry

I was assuming a hotel, but upon googling the address it seems to be a damned industrial complex/lot off of Morris. I think I have the wrong address. I'll see what I can find on their website

That's the address alright. The google maps show it's nothing, but that's what even the website says it is. Maybe they built something there, I don't know. I can't run up there and check it though because I had to skip out on the Anti-obamacare Rally to make sure I had the gas to get there tomorrow. :xmad:

Remind me again , if we don't need a permit why are we going to this particular meeting ?

Especially when we don't have the route or final draft of the handouts to show them we have our stuff together .

I went to inform the city and IMPD of our intentions. The meeting went well. And yes, you missed some bacon!! :p

They urged us to get a permit, but stated that we do not need one. It was thought that if we get a permit they can slap us with all kinds of restrictions and set a precident for future events like this so we will not be getting one.

They had a lot of questions as I suspected but they seem to be ok with this event. Cpt Bates of the IMPD who is head of the events/traffic section seems eager to work with us and said we would have a couple officers go with the group. This is good and I was going to request they do so if they didn't offer.

They understood my reasoning for coming even without all the details and are looking forward to working with us again once we set a route.

    Now....

I'm setting a meeting to plan the route for Thursday evening, 6:30pm. I was thinking White River State Park because it's right downtown and a short walk/drive from everything should we need to go look at something. This gives a couple days notice, I know, but it's before the holiday weekend and maybe we can get the route set and presented to the IMPD next week. We cannot start out at White River State Park because the Jazz Fest has that lot booked. Also, there is something going on at the Circle that EVENING but there will be workers at the Circle setting up for that. Won't be much foot traffic but there are radio stations that look down on the circle and other buisnesses.

If you can't make the meeting Thursday night, EMAIL me your route suggestions and we'll go over them then. I encourage you all to come so all specific details can be worked out then. Sooner than later.

So do we know what all is going into the info packet? Also, we need an American Flag for the color guard and two volunteers to carry the flags. Also, we need a couple signs as they were okayed by the EAB as long as we don't look like a demonstration/protest.

Are the police there for safety? I thought the point of this walk was to show the public you can legally carry guns and to educate about our 2nd amendment rights. Doesn't having a police escort (government supervision) defeat the purpose? :twocents:

They're not there to supervise us. They're there to head off trouble if any antis try to get in our face.

Their presence is a good idea.
Making a statement against government while using the government, to keep those making a statement against you away from you while you are making your statement? Weird!!

I understand they will protect the marchers from physical / legal trouble, but my point is that maybe the public perception will be that they're escorting you (or that you HAD to get permission to do the march). Just throwing that out there...

Actually, they were considering having a couple officers with us, one ahead of us and one behind us. It's not about supervising us, it about protection in case any Anti's show up to cause problems. I'm sure you'd like to know there's an officer around if someone crackhead runs up and tries to take someone's rifle right?

This is only the first in many walks I plan to have. This is also a first for Indiana. I want this to go as smoothly as possible. I understand your concerns, but I wish you could see ours as well. We're not out there to protest against the government or what not. We are out there to educate the people and spark a fire in the hearts of Patriots.

Maybe after this one goes off without a hitch more of you will be willing to join us. Maybe next time the most we'll do is inform IMPD of our intentions and just go out. This time is different. This is the test case to see how the public handles it and to educate them. Maybe next time we can make this a National event.

I'm not worried about next time right now. I'm worried about this time. I'm responsible for not just this event, but also everyone's safety. That's a huge weight to have on your shoulders as those in the military I'm sure understand. That's what I'm taking on here. I do hope you understand.

First :rockwoot:, as far as the handouts go I'm thinking the one that Rambone made might be a good one . Other than that :dunno:

40 Reasons for Gun Control should be a good insert into there. Maybe some statistics?

That is a good point but maybe we can get them to distance themselves from us? Either way, we will be talking to the media at some point I'm sure so we can address that through them. Just tell them we didn't have to get a permit but wanted to work with the city and how they seemed very receptive about the whole thing or something to that effect. I'm not a great public speaker so maybe someone who can speak more eliquently can put it in better terms than I.

I wasn't aware that anyone was participating in this walk to make a statement against government. I'm going to assert my patriotism and my 2nd Amendment rights.

Those of us who advocate responsible gun ownership are almost universally reasonable, thoughtful and respectful of other's ideas.

Hoplophobes, unfortunately, are shrill, hysterical and incapable of forming a rational thought.

As Savage stated, if police escort had not been offered we would have requested it. Having them there is prudent to act as a deterrent against those who will think we have no right to be there and who may attempt to act on that belief.

Obviously, ANYONE who wishes to have a civil discussion with us will be free to do so.
