Exactly. That Freddy's in Hammond with Chicago pricing is straight trash.
They have Indiana prices, not Chicago. :):

Strip is at $68 now, but I think I got the Chicago Cut. I'm sure my memory is off on the exact price then.
1702268430801.pngChicago Chop House is even worse. The largest bill I ever paid for a meal was here 15 years ago.

I've eaten far more steaks 75 and up than I can remember. Sometimes they are great, sometimes not. An average choice ribeye at a decent market is about $25 currently - non-aged. So a $50-70 one at a restaurant is likely not going to be anything special. $100 + is the norm these days at higher end establishments.
On a side note we had the Butcher Block web site ribeyes this weekend - vendor gift - and I can only say they were the best free steaks i had last week. I would not ever order from them with my own money. Glorified omaha steaks. Thumbs down.

I've never had a great steak, so I don't know what I've been missing. My favorite is a ribeye (from anywhere but Strack's), lightly seasoned, cooked in a cast-iron skillet on my own stove. Hard sear, then finish in the oven.

Honestly the best steak was Del Frisco Double Eagle in Chicago but they closed and right now it's a chain place called Del Monicos. We go when we're in Florida and it is hands down the best ever.

No restaurant will ever have the best steak.

Best steak is when you (censor) the cow and eat the neat within that day.

    The same with chickens.
That red or white meat taste so, so, so different when it's that fresh being unalived.

    (Excusing aged steak)

On another steak note, i've heard great things about Steak 48 in Chicago, but have not had the opportunity to try it. $99 aged bone in ribeye was highly recommended to me.

I was by whole foods recently and they had some very nice ribeyes. It was about $55 for 2 of them. They were top notch.
