Looks like things just took a turn for the worse. The IS has captured the Mosul dam. This is a major supplier of water for the region. And a devastating weapon if used that way. Shew...the Iranians are going to have to invade to dig these guys out. And the Turks and Saudis, to boot. The guys in that region had best quit twiddling their thumbs or they're going to wake up to these *******s on their doorsteps.

I think you may be right and it's beginning to be quite obvious that the Iraqis are incapable of handling this. There needs to be a true ME coalition made up of all parties in the region directly subject to the spreading scourge.

US Approves Airstrikes on Iraq, Airdrops Aid
Barack Obama Approves Targeted Airstrikes on Iraq, Starts Aid Airdrops - WSJ

    We bail out the world.

But Mr. Obama also acknowledged domestic jitters about renewed military involvement in Iraq, where America fought an eight-year war.
"American combat troops will not be returning to fight in Iraq because there is no American military solution to the crisis in Iraq," he said, emphasizing the word "American."
"The only lasting solution is reconciliation among Iraqi communities and stronger Iraqi security forces," he said. Separately, Secretary of State John Kerry in a statement stressed the U.S. view that Iraq can only regain stability through the formation of a new, more inclusive government.

Can't find anything in his statement to disagree with.

I say lets unleash the Navy's air forces on them and start bombing them daily. Arm the Kurds to the teeth considering they're the only real fighting force capable of fighting them.
