    If you were informed of this policy when you hired or it is in the company policy manual I believe you have no recourse, but if they just dropped it on you because of what is going on now,then I believe it might come under indiana unfair labor act. If this has been discussed in this thread already,sorry, its quite long to read the whole thing right now.:patriot:

    I'm young so I don't remember those days but I'm quite sure people only went to personnel when they needed to. One of the reasons HR is the way it is today is because people have become lazy and spoiled. I work for a large company and I hear people say all the time how they are scared of HR or how so and so got fired for no reason. There is always a reason.

    I brought a gun to work once, a long time ago. You know, to show off, I just bought it. Ruger Redhawk SS 44 mag. ('the most powerful handgun in the world") Still in the box. A few co-workers wanted to see it. Personnel found out, told me to not bring said gun in anymore. I didn't. End of story. Now, I would hate to think what would happen if I did that! Different times I guess.

    Block me in with your vehicle and threaten me? That's akin for a lawsuit and jail time for criminal confinement. They cannot, I repeat, CANNOT hold you with reasonable suspicion. The police cannot arrest you without reasonable suspicion, what makes this employer any different? I'll tell you. Not a damn thing.

    1. I wouldn't get out of my car for some rent-a-schmuck.

    2. If I am already fired, how am I being detained, and what is the point of sticking around for a coffee mug?

    3. Furthermore, if he pointed a weapon at me, my car would be in drive and my foot be pressing down on the accelerator very hard. Of course, if I were armed, he might be deserving of a bit of reciprocity.

    At that or any point, a 911 call to have security jerk-o arrested for felony violation of IC 35-47-4-3.


    4. Probable cause for the police to conduct a search based upon hearsay? Chances are the police would impound the car based upon evidence presented, which then leads to a vehicle inventory in the impound lot.

    Bingo.

    Just because the cop needs an escort within the facility does not mean that the company has more freedoms than any other company.

    I'm not going to get involved in the pissing match going on here, but I will make a few points:

    1. If you think "an employer can fire you for any reason in Indiana", you are CORRECT, but that doesn't mean you won't get sued for wrongful termination and have your ass handed to you. Way too many attorneys out there will sue the hell out of a company at zero cost to the terminated employee just to take a shot at the portion of lost wages. Case in point: A guy where I was working was FIRED for going into a secure area multiple times - who knew AND was previously caught a previous time. Still sued. Major PITA.
    2. The truth doesn't matter in the legal system. It is what you can prove, and money heavily influences the outcome. Company security at places previously mentioned have billions behind them - they're going to accuse you of what they need to in order to get what they need - and they aren't going to get fired for it because they are doing what the company wants. So, you're going to get accused of stealing so they can search your property, and trying to leave is only going to help them justify that. These protocols are worked out well in advance and run through their legal system. It isn't right, but they are going to do it and you are going to have to go through that process.

    Nate what you've said unfortunately is true. Hurts me,that its come to this. Law abiding people stripped of their rights. Yes I'm thankful for this job,and was raised to take pride in it. At one time employees here could check their sidearm at the guard shack.

    Pretty sad when a p.o.s. like bisard has been allowed to oc in these places because of the piece of tin on his chest, but a law abiding citizen has been banned from it. Sickening.
