I was right in the middle of the 1500 to 2000 range when I bought my M1A. It seemed expensive and still does but its sweet and a keeper. Every time I have shot it I have gone home convinced I got more than I paid for.

There isn't a cheap MIA. And, you don't find many at the local gun stores. I've seen a few at the Indy 1500 gun show. I had a shop order one and it came at a hefty price over 1600.00. Fortunately. the man gave me a nice trade in allowance for a SIG 226.

The warning I've seen is a caution in regards to the quality of ammunition used. There has been reports of firing before the bolt is locked.

That was in some of the paper work I received from Springfield. I think it mainly pertains to reloads.

I've shot and had this happen in My M1A. I got the ammo from my brother, who shot the hell out of it in his FAL with no issues.
First and last time I shot TZ. Bottom of the case ruptured, blew the bottom out of my mag.

I never get tired of posting this photo!

Bought this beauty at Midwest about a year ago. Went there fully planning on walking out with a M1A that day and since they were all out of standards I opted to get the Scout/Squad shown. It's a little heavy with all that wood but I love the original look and just can't bring myself to changing it. Even on sale I still had to dish out $1,400 after taxes.

No way I'd ever spend $1000+ on anything in 308. I don't get the fascination with the round. That kind of money, I'd go bigger. Is the Cobb in 30/06 still being made?

You're going to drop another $700+ just on the SAGE stock plus whatever scope you choose on top of the price of the M1A. I went with a VLTOR Modstock for mine and a Vortex Viper.

Your words are so negative and hurtful. I've shot literally thousands of rounds of .308 for years and the round has done nothing but bring me joy and success. It was the first round I reloaded. It was the first round I won a match with. It was the first round I shot at 1,000 yards with. It is my general purpose go to round.

Said the same thing in the paperwork with my new one. It was designed to like hard military primers and they haven't changed it.

I try to only use ammo sold as 7.62x51 vs. ammo marked .308win. I have never had a problem, I own 2, both are Springfield.
    I use 147gr. FMJ

Same here as well. I try to use only MilSurp NATO 147GR(PORT, Santa Barbara, Radway Green) in both of mine. I haven't experienced any problems though with commercial 308 such as PPU 150GR SP or Federal Gold Medal 168GR.

I may post a WTB ad on FB or Armslist and demand that someone sell me one for what I saw it for sale a few years ago, like they do ammo...
