Not necessarily. I think we could go with someone halfway between the most liberal (e.g. Gorsuch) and most conservative (e.g. Pryor) judges on Trump's published list of candidate nominees.

That seems like a good idea, but based on the modern history of those kinds of "compromise" candidates, they don't really work out that way.

SCOTUS Justices aren't real people. It only matters what their individual seat on the bench represents. It's a sad commentary that should'nt be necessary but that's what happens when Justices let politics and party ideologies get their foot in the door.
