We knew this day would come.

Obama will put up some moderate-sounding nominee with impeccable law credentials (but little written record), and then rely on Hillary on the campaign trail to put the pressure on Senate Republicans to approve him/her. He has already put two hard-core liberals on the court in Kagan and Sotomayor. His legacy in re-shaping the court is assured. His best chance at securing the final puzzle piece of that legacy, is getting the moderate justice confirmed who can put that assiduously-constructed liberal majority into action. It cannot begin until he gets somebody on there and gets the total back up to 9. He needs one last justice to cement his Supreme Court Legacy: "I was the President who permanently Flipped the Court." Obama has constructed a Powder Keg with Sotomayor and Kagan. This last nominee does not need to be hardcore liberal; he or she only needs to get approved. Then, walk into that Chamber with a Bic lighter in his/her hand, and light that fuse.

And you won't have any idea how explosive that powder keg can be, until you see how Kagan and Sotomayor start ruling on Big Issues - once they are finally in a position to decide them. Like a killer who hasn't committed any crimes *while* he was in prison, Kagan and Sotomayor haven't begun to do their damage yet. But their parole order arrived when Scalia's heart stopped beating.

The Senate Republicans will need testicles of diamond to withstand the withering pressure that's about to be placed on them to Move This Nominee. And because they're afraid of LOSING THEIR MAJORITY - they will very likely cave on this.

Even the mild mannered and weak Lyndsey Graham(nesty) says the Senate will block any of Obama's nominees until he is out of office as payback for the Democrats changing the rules to allow Federal judiciary appointment by majority vote. Elections may have consequences but so does abuse of power.
