    Woah there Diane Feinstein.

You should also realize in most countries with conscripting, the training is NOTHING like what we give to our troops. The vastness between a conscript and a professional soldier is enough to make the difference you're referring to practically irrelevant.

Not to mention it's relatively easy and common to dodge service in Israel.
Never delt with Israeli conscripts. But did with the katusas in korea. They where worthless as hell. The ROK army even hated them

The Israeli military trainee, soldier, and subsequently reservist has the advantage of the historical and current knowledge that people very close to or even inside his country’s borders really want to kill him, his family, and everyone he knows. He knows from current history that small scale clashes (which are war to the ones involved) are likely, and from his parents and grandparents that an all-hands-on-deck fight is a real possibility. He might have to really use the stuff he’s being taught. I suspect this gives him some higher motivation to absorb his lessons (and higher motivation to instructors to teach) as compared to conscripts from most nations that have mandatory service.

The Israelis are not supermen, and they do eff-up on occasion, but I suspect their conscripts and reservists have an edge over those from most countries.

Joe is consistent in hating armed citizens and (gasp!) militias. Would be nice if he were this proactive about cutting off support for the bad guys as well.

Reading the article, it seems the US was ok with distributing the rifle as long as the police or military did it. The issue seemed to be that a politician was handing them out.

When we were leaving Korea to go straight to Iraq our katusas where scared to death that they'd be sent to the ROK to fulfill the rest of their time
    You were 2ID, around 2004-06?

For those of us not in the know (FTOUNITK):

KATUSA = Korean Augmentation to the United States Army is a branch of the Republic of Korea Army that consists of Korean enlisted personnel who are seconded to the Eighth United States Army. KATUSA does not form an individual military unit.

    Yes 03-04
IIRC, there was a battalion that left Korea and eventually ended up in Fort Collins Colorado. I was dealing with TACP positions at ACC at the time

Edit: if I remember correctly, tactical air control party, air combat command.
