We all know about the successful revolutions, because they were successful. But comparatively, the "elites" have traditionally mopped the floor of the masses. In modern times, I think such an overt act by govt could not be successfully resisted, except in a handful of places... and, being a member of this site, I'm sure you know why.

There are some Czars that might disagree.
Push hard enough, and eventually the masses do something.
The more it takes to get them going, the worse it gets .

...I's like rerunning a simulation of WWII, but without all that messy fighting and dying...

...I was thinking along the lines of something like "The National Socialist Party"...No ones used that one before have they???

But who says the Germans haven't learned anything from history? _Importing_ a million muslims a year and providing for them is something Hitler was obviously too dumb / too smart (circle one) to do. But it's bound to improve cultural relations. In theory.

With their love of gun control, nationalized healthcare, a nationalized police force, etc...I was thinking along the lines of something like "The National Socialist Party"...

I like that, it's catchy. It seems like someone else used it, just can't put my finger on it....

Not at all. The real question is will they actually get to a Brexit. A popular vote is merely the first of a thousand steps before it is complete.
The EU pulling crap like this certainly doesn't tend to hinder the process.

Considering that the state department is controlled by the executive branch and he'd have to be aware that trade negotiations are going on, I'd say the former. He lied to try and influence a foreign election.

This, I would tend to believe.
