I'm opposed to all private parcel delivery services and only use the United States Postal Service. I refuse to support any private business before the government. When a man pulled into my driveway in what appeared to be a FedEx truck, I knew that something was fishy. I haven't had a FedEx delivery in years and certainly have not ordered anything recently. As the suspicious big white truck was backing down my driveway, I drew my M&P (who uses Glocks nowdays?) from the appendix carry holster, and maintained a defensive position by the front door. I watched a shady looking man in a FedEx hat, shirt, and pants walk towards my door. He had a small package in one hand and his other hand contained some type of electronic device. As he grew closer it became obvious that he was up to no good. As he rang my doorbell, I sprung open the door and took preventative action. This suspicious man could have had a bomb in the box with the remote detonator in his other hand. I drew my .45 ACP Smith & Wesson M&P on his chest and shouted, "STOP RIGHT THERE YOU SCUMBAG HITMAN!" He immediately changed his posture and expression from aggressive to terrified. As he ran back to his box van of deception, I ran inside and wrote this on INGO as quickly as I could.

I think that I just saved my own life. :twocents:

Did he hold the detonator with his elbow up or down? :dunno:

I wasn't there. And I clarified that I made my statements solely on the info in your OP.... and you obviously left out the part about the 3 trespassing signs. Did you tell the police you pointed your gun at the guy because he was trespassing? Do you point guns at every person that walks up to your door and knocks?
For you I could make and exception. I havent pointed a gun at anyone in this state until last night. I would not have except for the violent history of this clown and his GF at one time did mention that he had a pistol.
I have gathered information on him today and will be contacting INS first thing tomorrow morning and lets see if they do their job. He has a mexican drivers license in spanish....guess where he is from and there is no green card in his wallet either. ;) There are alot of them in Terre Haute and I can tell you where some of them work (illegally) and I can also tell you that most of them mysteriously have Illinois plates (living in Indiana) and are somehow getting license plates for their vehicle out of Edgar County (IL).

You are hilarious. NOT! I chose to do my job which is defend my home, property and family. I was not gambling on this guy pulling a gun out. Why else would someone have their hand in their coat (NOT POCKET)? Would you take the chance, with your wife's life? With your life? I still dont know what he had underneath his coat. I do know it wasnt a Christmas Card....that was months ago. :):

You're toeing the line there, son. Even if in a joking manner, I don't appreciate someone implying they'd point a firearm in my direction.

Dont come in my driveway with a "history" like the guy last night had and you wont have anything ever to worry about, sunshine. Next time dont ask if you dont want to know the answer.

Im just saying that it is not necessarily true. You can be upset, but without all the facts you cannot make an absolute statement that it was illegal. Use of reasonable, or deadly in this case, force may be acceptable. Yes, on the surface it may look bad and it may cost to prove it....assuming you can get a prosecutor to press it, which in this case I doubt.

I'm not saying I agree with what the OP did either, I'm saying it ain't as black and white as some of you make it out to be.
Except, I CAN make an absolute statement that "pointing a firearm" at another person is ILLEGAL!
And, the LAW IS black and white!

(btw, pointing a gun (not firing) is not "deadly force")

Yeah I only reach into the interior pockets of my coat to pull a gun.
It's not like I keep tissues there.

You're very lucky that he was an amateur terrist. If he was a pro he would have detonated the bomb right there and taken you with him.

Regardless... the police didnt even feel it warranted a police report or complaint form and they obviously werent worried about my drawing considering I told them exactly what had happened and no visitors at my door today.

Are you sure you want to go digging that hole friend?
Some pretty smart folks have made the suggestion that posting anything you have is a poor idea.
Are you setting yourself up for a really bad time in court if you ever really do need to use your gun for self defense?

It is illegal UNLESS "reasonable force is justified" (I'm not certain it was, but there are a lot of absolutes in this thread without enough details to make them)

if his HANDS were cold he would have had both of them in their respective pockets or both of them inside is partially zipped up coat. Notice in all my posts I mention HAND in the coat...not HANDS.

You're right. I haven't ever put one hand inside of a pocket while the other hand was still exposed. This is extremely suspicious behavior. You caught me.

He got smart, so i gave it right back. If he cant get that, then I dont know what to tell him. I would not say that to him or any other officer in uniform, surely he is not in uniform right now and typing on Ingo on INDIANA time. :n00b:
