Request for clarification: Does the content ban include YouTube videos? They are designed to be embeddable, so it would seem odd if we can't embed them.

I guess vets are screwed for any of the info that Jay posts that doesn't have an actual link (like the snippets from the benefits booklet and so on).
I'm sure they're used to getting the short end of the stick by now anyhow. This is not in purple.
FWIW (and that ain't much being MY two cents), this "new rule" could be a tad flexible for things like that. I really don't think the VA would sue INGO for that...but who am I to say?

Seems to me that some courtesy and some active modding on religious threads, could have kept this from happening.

    Its unfortunate.

In my opinion the mod who thought up never speaking of religion is a bit full of himself. Respectful discussions of religion happen every day with no issues.
    What are you afraid of?
If a person post something out of line on any subject it can and should be dealt with by the mods. Quit trying to make your job easier by just making a blanket statement of "no talk of XXXXXX period, because I don't want to have to deal with it"
Anyway, that's what it sounds like to me, I sure hope your never in a position of real authority over anyone. I'm done. You may now drop the socialist hammer on me.

Will we be taking down the prayer chain thread then

    I'm also curious about this.

I have to imagine that the goal of New Rule #1 is to cut down on talk about "Islam is trying to take over the world" and "gay marriage shouldn't be allowed because the Bible says it's wrong." So, I'm hoping that non-inflammatory requests for prayer from fellow members who happen to share a faith is not grounds for infractions or "hammering", but I'd like to see that verified or stricken.

As written, the new rule seems to proscribe quoting things like:

    the Indiana Code
    Federal law
    court opinions

...which are both public domain AND some of the most useful info I've gotten from this board.

It's going to be really hard to have a discussion about what is and isn't allowed in firearm and self-defense law if you can't quote the source. Even linking isn't enough because frequently the source document is a long web page or a 20-page PDF ... it's hard to find exactly what dense legal language the poster was referring to out of the hundreds or thousands of words linked.

I understand what you're trying to do here, I really do. People don't realize that being sued is in some ways more destructive than being arrested, because unlike being arrested no attorney will be appointed for you. It's kind of like an automatic loss, unless you're being sued over a profit-making activity that can fund your defense, which I doubt INGO qualifies as. But shutting off ALL quoting, including things that are clearly government-originated public domain, really reduces the usefulness of this board. Can you rethink that aspect of this rule, please?

But can I say that I thinks something like the religion and race rule was overdue. I've seen enough racist innuendo on this board to not want to see any more, and if this rule helps reduce that, then it's a big win.

+1 INGO. I love this site. I've watched it grow and evolve and think it is on the right path.

Regarding the new rules. I completely understand the purpose and intent. I think some common sense should go a long way, but also see that some people don't have any of this. That said, I would like to see a provision for the prohibition of quoting from other sources to exclude Indiana Code, Federal Law, and court opinions. I understand that requesting the mods to verify the copyright status of an infinite number of sources is unreasonable, however these items are critical to one of the the primary purposes of this board (IMHO).

I totally understand why this had to happen. Wars have started because of religion and politics. Fenway is just trying to protect our precious INGO. And I think that's awesome. Being a very religious person, I do hate to see this happen. But it was only a matter of time. I think the politics section should also be removed.

I don't think quoting laws and code should count though. We should still be able to do that.

YouTube videos, they can't be copyrighted. They say YouTube on the top.

I even deleted my signature cause it had a biblical verse. I didn't know if it was against the rules.

I think this is a sad day. But I do respect Fenway for trying to make sure INGO is still around for years, and making this a better place.

Thanks for the awesome local focused gun related web forum that didn't exist before you created it. I appreciate the trouble you go through to maintain it for me to use or not use as I see fit, free of charge.

Also can see how you don't want the place to become a news aggregator or propaganda distribution point, so these new rules make sense to me in that regard.

I didn't have any problems finding the 2 new rules. Simply started looking into why old threads were being closed. I would suggest to moderators, that any thread closed under the new policy have a link to the new policy.

Regarding the 2nd rule. If you don't own the copyright of something, and it's not in the public domain (which all government documents and legislation is,) post a link and comments. Doesn't seem that hard to follow.

And here is the douche bag that's causing this problem. His business plan is to go after anyone and everyone that posts articles from newspapers his clients hold. While Fenway ought to be covered under the DMCA, I can understand not wanting to take on the liability and resulting law suits (and lawyers.)

Personally, I think his business plan is going to backfire on the newspapers he's representing. Far easier to write code to prevent anything from posting from those newspapers sites, which in the long run, is going to cut down on the # of visitors, which will cut down on their revenue.

To all, feel free to quote me, although I am married to a lawyer
I'm not a d-bag and will not sue you for using my content.

You have been given notice of free domain.

Also, I wouldn't even know where to start with editing my past posts.
My memory is not that great in regard to posting an article, I don't think it happened that often.

EDIT: NEVERMIND just saw shooter521's post in the [strike]post whore[/strike] official status update thread with the 411.

Pre-existing threads that would otherwise not be permitted, in which there is ongoing discussion, might be closed, but we're not going to go back into the archives to make sure old threads/posts are closed or compliant. There is no need for you guys to do so, either.

Did I do that right? It has a link.

Just over a year ago, I asked for a sticky thread to post VA and Veterans-related issues. The vast majority of posts in that thread are mine, and while many are just links, I have quoted VA documentation in other posts. I'll go through those posts and where I can I'll edit out those quotes, and leave just the links.

And thus goes one of the things that USED TO make INGO a better place than most corners of the net.
Guess I need to stop directing vets to look here for info. Like PTGB stated, sometimes links go to pages and pages of "blah blah blah" and you have no idea the exact location of the quote (or specific info) you're looking for. Sorry, vets. Screw you and the Humvee you rode in on...gotta CYA here.

It was brought to my attention that this is not the case for many members due to ignorant comments flying in the General Politics forum.

If you are one to offended on an Internet forum, then I say remember, wipe front to back.

This site has turned into much more than a gun only forum.

    INGO Fantasy Football League
    General Political Discussion
    Survival and Disaster Preparedness
    The Cutting Edge
    The Great Outdoors
    Break Room

It just seems to me that there could be some happy medium, between Frugal Squirrels and being a gun only/classified forum.
