I believe this was an observation and shelter bunker with a flak position on the roof or next to it.
They did have MG42s but closer to the beach.Probably in torbouk type bunkers.
I have picture taken on the beach bellow that bunker.
You can see 30+ dead soldiers lying there next to smoking vehicles.
Hooks on the walls maybe for ammo storage.

This is the beach of Dieppe where an attempted landing took place in 1942, two years before the actual D-Day landing.I guess it's not as known as the D-Day and the D-Day beaches.
The first US Rangers who died in France during WW2 died on that beach.

The "invasion" only lasted 5.5 hours.
They were supposed to seize a port for a short period of time.
Never got off the beach.
There are tall bunkers for observation on other beaches but this one is smaller and has no opening on the front, or on any sides.
Part of a structure that's gone??
