Don't think the Russians would've gone to all this trouble if the outcome of the vote wasn't already in favor of them prevailing before it even took place.

I keep seeing this and keep asking people the same question that no-one answers. What would you have him do? What's your grand solution that the US should do? You say you want action. What action should he take? Let's hear it.

Charles Krauthammer: How Obama can (still) thwart Putin | National Post

This seems like a reasoned and reasonable response with respect to objectives 1 Reassure NATO and 2 Deter further Russian incursion into Ukraine (like what happened yesterday in Strelkovoye where Russian troops seized control of a natural gas terminal).

Immediate revival of missile defense agreements with Poland and the Czech Republic (both begged for the US not to unilaterally concede the program), along with a unified statement from the US and NATO that both will respond rapidly and favorably to any request from Kiev for weapons purchase, will send a strong and clear message to Eastern Bloc and to Russia.

There you go! Using words like reasoned and reasonable. Obama is neither. He does not believe in missile defense and so in the long run will do nothing. Putin knows this and will push this as far as he thinks is reasoned and reasonable. The flexibility of which Obama spoke before the 2012 election, is on display for the world to observe.

Obama is just following the orders of the NWO. Obama will not do anything to stop Putin.

"The drive of the Rockefellers and their allies is to create a one-world government combining supercapitalism and Communism under the same tent, all under their control.... Do I mean conspiracy? Yes I do. I am convinced there is such a plot, international in scope, generations old in planning, and incredibly evil in intent. "Congressman Larry P. McDonald, 1976, killed in the Korean Airlines 747 that was shot down by the Soviets.

Somebody had enough influence to have the Soviets shoot down Korean Airlines 747 with Congressman Larry P. McDonald onboard. Congressman McDonald believed there was a New World Order being planned and he was not quiet about it.

Well, it is straight from the Kremlin and the exact same stuff they've been preaching since this whole thing started. Lots of people here in the US on the weird side have been picking it up and running with it.

In 1997, Obama’s former foreign affairs adviser, and president Jimmy Carter’s national security adviser – Zbigniew Brzezinski – wrote a book called The Grand Chessboard arguing arguing that the U.S. had to take control of Ukraine (as well as Azerbaijan, South Korea, Turkey and Iran) because they were “critically important geopolitical pivots”.

"Ukraine, a new and important space on the Eurasian chessboard, is a geopolitical pivot because its very existence as an independent country helps to transform Russia. Without Ukraine, Russia ceases to be a Eurasian empire.

However, if Moscow regains control over Ukraine, with its 52 million people and major resources as well as access to the Black Sea, Russia automatically again regains the wherewithal to become a powerful imperial state, spanning Europe and Asia."

So, Russia, the propaganda capitol of the world (behind NK and US), is saying 95% of Crimea wants to be invaded and made part of Russia.

Oh. Okay. I believe them. Nothing to see here.

Turns out 123% of Sevastopol residents voted for joining Russia. Crimea counted more votes than the number of voters

Great book. Everyone here should read it.

Right or wrong, its important for the US to keep Ukraine out of Russias hands. This isnt your daddy's falled communist state. Russia has rebounded and is stronger than ever. The Ukraine move only adds to their strength and further endangers Easter Europe. Ukraine was a buffer zone, and it is in danger of falling to Russia.

Im pretty sure its just the Western assets of the Russian officials. Many of them use American bank accounts or have residence here.

    Ah, that makes sense.

Included in the freeze - Russian deputy PM, two top Presidential aides and the Federation Council Speaker, and ousted Ukraine President.

He shouldn't be doing anything, other than pointing a finger at the EU and keeping his mouth shut.

Which is why I said "Not making any suggestions/claims as to if that is a good or bad thing"

If it doesn't serve our personal interest, I don't care to be involved. Although we went to war many times in the past over the concept of the domino theory. If Russia continued, it would require a strong adversary to rise up and restrain them. The EU isn't that adversary. If this escalates, strongly worded statements will not get what needs to be done, accomplished.

I'm not suggesting he should do anything in any instance. But look at Syria. Make a threat of action if an imaginary line is crossed. Watch this line be crossed multiple times. More strongly stated words. No action. Do you not think other hostile nations haven't taken note of this? My expectation is this. If you say something, back it up by action. If you have no intention of doing so, stfu and stay out of it. The threat of force loses its impact and effectiveness in such conditions. Leaving you the choice later of having no choice... diplomacy only works under the threat of hostilities being a real concern. Without that, you have no choice but war.
