Why?
They can offer "humanitarian aid", fix the people up, send them on the way, get a positive way to back out of this.

There are obviously no American casualties that have been inflicted at this point otherwise it would be game on and Iran knows that. I'm sure they were praying hard that there would not be because that would have most certainly left the United States no choice but to evoke an escalation the likes of which Iran would be hit very hard.

I wouldn't doubt that Iran's "Intelligence" network leaked the possible attack so that we could get personnel out of the area.

It couldn't be. There's no explosion from impact.

The video is only showing the plane falling out of the sky on fire. It could have been hit before the camera started rolling, though.
