For what it's worth and for all the good it will do, I sent this letter to the ISP this morning. Waiting for a response. Something tells me that my application may fall behind a desk and not be found for quite some time. :)

I applied for a personal protection License To Carry a Handgun on 04/13/2010 through the offices of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Dept. Your office cashed my money order in the amount of $75.00 on 05/04/2010. What possible explanation is there for the excessive amount of time that it is taking to perform a simple background check and issue the license? I am a U.S.Army veteran and former commissioned officer, so I know my history and that numerous background checks have been done previously. This delay is very detrimental to the credibility of your office and speaks volumes to the lack of efficiency existing within the Indiana State Police organization. I have made several telephone calls to the firearms section and have not received any useful or credible information as to the reason for the delay. My application number is:0129172291 Thank you for your attention to this matter.

the guys and gals that live in counties allowing the L1 service really need a thread of their own....you know where they can listen to and comfort each other as they share the horrible and taunting stories of waiting times of a week and a half or god forbid...two weeks. you guys will form lifelong bonds with the ordeals that you are going thru. be strong and keep the faith...:)

I think they prefer laughing at the rest of us. Its like dinner and a show for them.

It will be interesting to see what they have to say to that. I trust you will keep us updated. I liked what someone said earlier about writing our assembly rep. I might do that in a couple weeks once my 60 days has passed (that way I can speak to personal experience, rather than only the experience of those in this thread). Its absurd that they spell out the time frame in the IC, yet wont adhere to it.

Thanks! I will keep you informed. I sent this via e-mail on the ISP website under their heading: Contact us. I do wish in retrospect that I had included a hot link to this thread. If I need to contact them again I will. If anyone is writing to their representative maybe it would give more credibility if a link to this thread accompanied any such correspondence. That way (if they are even interested) they could see for themselves the actual waiting times and attendant frustrations of their constituents.Just a thought. :)

Thanks for pushing the buttons for those of us who are waiting. IF the time frame is correct, mine should arrive in late August since the MO was cashed June 1.

    Good luck.

I applied for a 4-year LTCH on Columbus Day. Got my renewal about the 2nd week in December, IIRC. An acquaintance applied for his first LTCH; it took him about 13 weeks to get his, and that was within the last month.

Here is an interesting one. I thought I would check to see if my money order was cashed today. I did a Western Union money order from WalMart, since I was already there. I got on Western Union's website today and saw they had a tracking feature right on the site. They were asking for some 10 digit number on my receipt. Issue is, I dont have a 10 digit number on my receipt. Anyone have experience tracking the Western Union ones?
