The USA is testing in 5 cities now,but the numbers at the CDC have not gone up at all?Not even the number of negatives?
On the CDC website. 42 states have PUI,that is persons under investigation,but we have only 15 cases in the entire country?How big a shovel do they need to cover that up?

Point being,we seem to be doing the exact same thing China did.Pretending it is not a problem.
It is a problem.Google tents set up at hospitals to intake flu patients(limit your search to the last month).From California to Pennsylvania,from Toronto to Tennessee it is happening,because of the flu. Heck Tennessee has 15 entire school districts shut down(all k-12)...and state it is a mystery illness,as less than 10% have tested positive for the flu,and more than 10% of staff and students have called in sick in 12 of those districts.
Do we have flu cases,sure.It is a normal yearly thing.
But entire school districts being shut down because more than 10% of all staff and students call in sick is not.

Japan,Hong Kong,Vietnam,Singapore(another with a city in lock down)...all have uncontrolled spread.

Even Egypt has cases.

Are we all going to die.NO.But it would be nice if we where told what is actually going on.
Do you think people you know would panic? I do not.Most would shrug and think this is nothing...just like they are being told.

Correct. That's why I'm contributing less to this thread than early on. I'm still reading a lot about this disease and there is a lot to be concerned about, but most of what is coming out right now are reports backed by very limited data that needs to be filtered out over time. We are fortunate in that many lessons will be learned the hard way primarily in China before it becomes a major issue here.

So, what should people avoid obsessing over right now?

• Be careful about sharing every report that comes out. Too much of it is sensationalized, one-offs, or misinterpretations that lead to unnecessary fear/panic. We still don't know some of the most basic facts about this disease. Just how infectious is it (R0)? What is the death rate? Are there groups that are more vulnerable? At what point(s) is someone infectious and exactly how does it spread? What are the best precautions and treatments?
• Is this a man-made disease? Possibly, but that doesn't affect you, your family or your preps in the slightest. There are people who should pay attention to this and will eventually make a determination, but you almost certainly aren't one of them, so stressing about it is worse for your health than ignoring the possibility.
• Can you be infected multiple times, become sterile, have sudden heart failure, or other particularly nasty effects that have been/will be reported? Time will tell how real and/or how common these issues are. There is nothing you can do about them other than be aware that many (but probably not all) of them will be proven false over time.
• There is no miracle drug coming available soon. It is estimated that it will be 12-18 months for a good/effective vaccine to become available. Anything else is grossly misrepresented (like the 3-hour vaccine). People are looking for treatments to minimize the effects once you are infected, but those will take time to be proven. This will shake out over time and unless you are in a very narrow set of positions, stressing about it provides no benefit.

What practical steps can you take at this point? It turns out they are actually things that cost relatively little and are beneficial regardless of whether you are ever directly impacted by this specific disease.

• Keep informed. Don't ignore coronavirus as it very well might eventually have a real effect on you, your family and your business. Try to filter out the sensationalism, fear-mongering and limited-data reports.
• Do what you can to improve your overall health and disease resistance: stop smoking, eat better, lose weight, get in shape, possibly take some supplements. The vast majority of people who contract this disease recover and you can take practical steps to improve your odds (and improve your overall health).
• Improve your sanitation procedures. Try not to touch your face so often which brings germs that you might contact on surfaces up to points where they can enter the body. Wash your hands more often and thoroughly. Sanitize areas that are touched commonly and by multiple people: door knobs, sinks/faucets, light switches, keyboards/mice, etc.
• If you want, purchase some relevant supplies. This is a standard part of prepping and if done properly, these supplies can be used over time whether this disease hits you or not. Cleaners, soap, and possibly masks/gloves are all available and make sense. Stocking food/water makes sense if you have to quarantine for a while or can simply be eaten later if you never are directly impacted.
• Social distancing may become one of the more important tools to minimize disease spread. Consider whether remote work, more cooking/eating at home or other techniques are available to you. This isn't something to really act on just yet, but prepping is about more than just "acquiring stuff".

Finally, buy lots of guns and ammo for the inevitable zombie apocalypse. You'll make Ruger/S&W stockholders happy and well, this is a gun board so you know you want to...

This all bears some resemblance to the West Nile scare (remember that?) a few years ago. Everything was all "frenzies of fear and revulsion" in the media. People refused to visit parks and public game events. Spraying happened everywhere. Everyone was going to die. Mosquito repellent sold out. Many non-functional anti-mosquito devices were sold to desperate, uninformed consumers.

Result?

A few old/young people with compromised immune systems died. The few follow-up studies done demonstrated a good percentage of the population was already immune. MANY people actually got West Nile without realizing it, since they recovered and thought they had a cold or the flu. Now you may see an annual report in the papers - maybe - and two people die in Indiana from it in a year.

Not sure if this was touched on, but the rumor is that this guy helped setup the lab in Wuhan. All I can find is info that he was arrested for helping them, and that he has the knowhow to setup such a lab.

Note that WHO is only now sending a team to investigate Covid-19 2 months after it was recognized as a real problem. And less than two weeks ago, the head of WHO was saying:
