At some point though a gun that has been discontinued for some time will start to creep back up like classic cars..

I understand if it's a firearm that's not made anymore. But a recently made mini-14 should not be that high. His accessories that he put on the rifle don't justify his high price he's asking.

I'm pretty sure that they get the same google searches that I do but , hey , some one in New York put that price on a mint condition piece

I always find it funny when someone describes a firearm as "Mint". It is not minted, or made in a mint, or stored in a mint. No even scented minty fresh, so how can a firearm be MINT????

    Does peppermint count?

Yes, some will and some will not. The pieces I refer to are over priced used guns still in production. I have seen posts from folks who say they will never loose money selling a gun. I suppose the make money on used cars as well.......:dunno:

If a price is too high just have a laugh and move along. Don't get caught up in the "I feel the need to educate this idiot in the classified section" moment. This coming from experience on my part. In my early days of joining INGO I see a guy posting ammo at a ridiculous price. I feel the need to work this guy over so I ask in the post, not in a PM (I want everyone to see my good deeds and think what a great thing Glueman is doing) to post pictures of all the rounds. Thinking that this will keep the guy busy for a while.

I get an infraction and the Mod says that "We all know that you were just yanking the guys chain" and says to keep all question in a PM according to the rules. I am so much smarter than the Mods so I respond to the Mod with this. "I was serious about the ammo and just wanted to make sure it wasn't corroded or something, remember I am so much wiser than the Mods and they can be easily fooled.

Since they don't have time to deal with stupidity I was given 48 hours to think about if I wanted to argue with the Mods in the future. It was a stupid mistake and I understand that it was me that got a lesson there not the guy with the over priced ammo.

Take the advice Max and move along and let it go. When you are at Fenways house you play by his rules.

I thought it was a pretty simple concept to understand. You don't like the price you don't have to buy. Who cares if someone overprices their weapon. It is not hurting me at all because I will not overpay. I just move on to the next listing that I have interest in.

I agree. I just traded my LC9 with 2 mags, leather IWB holster, and 100 rounds of ammo for a 3913 w 3 mags. The price difference is huge.

WTS: Almost NIB, like never been fired Ruger Mark III. Has some holster wear and normal usage wear, has been my EDC for four years. Approximately 3,000 rounds downrange since I got it at a yard sale, unknown round count before that. Comes with box and paperwork and unused plastic cleaning tool. Sights need paint, this is easy to do. $600 firm. I will throw in 25 rounds HP ammo and 100 rounds WWB for an extra $75. Comes with one magazine, I have two more I will let you have for $80. FTF only, will need to see IN DL, LTCH, two utility bills showing your current address that must match IN DL. You will need to sign bill of sale and be fingerprinted and photographed.

Maxmayhem, I just ignore such ads. It's a free country and people can ask what they want. You made an excellent analogy with real estate. I've sold 4 homes in my life and never waited longer than about a month because we "staged" them and priced them at the market price. Asking outlandish prices just leads to no sales. When I see ads like that I assume sales is not one of the poster's competencies! I always like "no pics, I won't travel, take it or leave it, this is my price I don't care what you think", etc.

BTW, can I really get $1200 for my mini? :ingo:

Dang it, can't believe I left out the "no pics" and "holster has almost no wear, $80". FTF within throwing distance of my home or will ship to your LGS for only $60.

One thing that may drive prices up on classifieds is that you don't have to go through the a gov't check. many people fear they are put on a list when they get a background check, I firmly believe they do have a list but it doesn't stop me, but it might deter a lot of people, and there are those few people that may not be up to any good. Hopefully no one buys that stuff at those high prices.

The classifieds are still useful, but not near what they once were. Back when most adds had pictures and the seller's average post count was well into the hundreds. There were many times in the past where you had to look well into the second page to stay current with the day's new posts. Today, half a page, never into the second. A high percentage of the classifieds participants now days are user names that you only see posting in the classifieds forums.

    Just around the corner.
I go into the classifieds now not in search to buy as that ain't happening with the currant crop of idiots selling in there. I go for the Humor as it is everywhere.
A TRP with much of the finish worn off the gun for new price. A 12 year old Rem. 700 for near new price. A used RO for Retail........

Post-em like you want to. This ain't gunbroker fellas. Most of us know what these pieces are worth.

In this market I can post a gun for a very fair price and it is scooped up very quickly. I get those looking to buy cheap and re-post at a profit here or elsewhere but I know who most of them are. They do not get the gun........:)
They don't post with experienced gun owners in mind. They post hoping to snag a noobie that doesn't know any better.
