That title is misleading. The men were convicted and sentenced to 10 to 12 years in prison for sexual abuse. They have a strange definition of 'rape' there and it will probably be fixed soon.

They probably would not have in most places in the U.S.

I wouldn't call it meddling. More like criticizing and thinking how much better we are. It is only fair though, criticizing the US and thinking how much better they are is like a continental pass-time over there.
