New Report on Police Militarization via The Daily Beast

I am still not sure how you are equating "dangerous" only with death. According to the FBI, from 2001-2010, 514 police officers were "feloniously killed" performing their job, while 718 were "accidentally killed". During that same period of time, 586,674 police officers were assaulted. How...

New Report on Police Militarization via The Daily Beast

Ha, not so. Remember, the people who make up any police force are a part of the community that they work in. The laws that they enforce have an impact on their families, their friends, and even themselves. For the same reasons that our troops would refuse to follow ridiculous unconstitutional...

New Report on Police Militarization via The Daily Beast

Because it's only dangerous if someone dies as the result of a gunshot. But yea, I guess you could ignore the number of officers who are assaulted every year and the number of officers killed in automobile accidents and claim it isn't "dangerous ".

New Report on Police Militarization via The Daily Beast

"Every city squad car is equipped today with a military-style assault rifle, and officers can don Kevlar helmets able to withstand incoming fire from battlefield-grade ammunition." Yea, I can't imagine why an officer would ever need such gear...actually, I can. Here are a few incidents which...

Police Response to Latest VA Tech Murders, Improved!

I strongly believe the former is the case, in most instances. It is hard for someone who wants to keep his/her job to speak out against their employer. If the chief disagrees with the person who picks the chief, there will soon be a new chief who will agree with that person. Just look at IMPD...

Well round 2 for carry on campus, State Government level now!

A few years ago a few of the officers agreed to participate in an "event" with the science club. The officers brought in a few rifles and handguns from their own collections and allowed students to look at them and ask questions. It was interesting to speak with them, although at the time I did...

Police Response to Latest VA Tech Murders, Improved!

I agree that the policy is wrong, and should be changed. Students and employees should not be forced to disarm. I also believe officers should be issued (or at least allowed to have) rifles and "toys" (within reason) which aid them in response to such incidents. If every officer drove an armored...

Police Response to Latest VA Tech Murders, Improved!

Campus police did respond, as well as multiple other LE agencies. I was pointing out that the officers with the "toys" such as armored vehicles in the video, did not appear to be campus police. I would be surprised if agencies, such as the state police, did not have such "toys" prior to the...

Police Response to Latest VA Tech Murders, Improved!

Interesting. Where did you find this information? I was unaware that "armored vehicles" were purchased by campus police. I know armored vehicles are routinely used to respond to incidents such as this, but I was unaware that they were purchased to prevent such incidents. Does VTPD routinely...

Police Response to Latest VA Tech Murders, Improved!

All that was intended to prevent a police officer from being shot and killed in his police cruiser following an unrelated traffic stop?

Better look at UC Davis pepper spray incident.

Just because it is hydrophobic does not necessarily mean it will not "wash away". It will go into solution easily with other oils, and can be removed with soaps and detergents. Washing skin with soap and clothing with detergents will remove the capsaicin. An emulsifier is used in OC spray which...

      State of Emergency Anonymous Marine

I think he is referring to whoever posted the video. Follow the link he posted, and watch some of the other videos that have been posted under that name. There is no evidence that the person posting the video is actually a marine, however.

      New store in Lafayette

Thanks for the answer. It's an interesting topic, and I can understand both sides of the argument. I do not necessarily agree with the signs or the policy, but I can understand why they would not want someone handling a loaded firearm in their store. I would not appreciate someone standing next...

Better look at UC Davis pepper spray incident.

No need to bring a stick to a word fight? So, should I only carry a firearm when I know there will be a gun fight? As far as authority what makes a campus police officer such as a Butler PD officer different than say, an IMPD officer? I am confused. I see campus police officers conducting...

Better look at UC Davis pepper spray incident.

Your laughter, combined with the fact that the students were carrying iPhones, is not sufficient evidence that these officers were "heavily armed". They were armed. The students may or may not have been. That does not mean the officers were "heavily armed".

Heavily armed? The only weapons I saw in the video were sticks, OC, paintball markers, and holstered sidearms. I would not define this as "heavily armed".

Better look at UC Davis pepper spray incident.

Comparing this incident to a woman being raped is absurd. The protesters were warned multiple times to leave, and chose to not do so. They were also well aware that they were about to be sprayed with OC, as evidenced by the video. Raping someone and spraying someone with OC are completely...

Better look at UC Davis pepper spray incident.

Who said they only have a high school education? Who said they were pissed off? If they were pissed off, why did they not use the paintball markers which shoot paintballs that contain OC? That would inflict more pain than simply spraying them with OC. If five men in polo shirts could have...

Self defense question when dealing with a minor

I agree with this. If I believed the person was serious and would be waiting outside with the intent of harming me I would likely call police. They respond to situations like this routinely, and they are paid to do so. No need to end up in a situation which can easily be avoided.

      New store in Lafayette

So, for those of you who do not patronize stores with such signs, do you also choose to not visit the 1500? I am just curious.
