Here is a modern Springfield that I let go of a couple of years back... Still have several others though.
Here is a 1944 Springfield, with a decent 9-44 barrel!
... and the with a marked stock too!
Now if I can find a M1A to replace that first Garand I let go...
Anybody else have a Marlin Camp Carbine in .45ACP for comparison? (or even in 9mm?) Can you take a look at the bolt face and compare it to mine in the pictures below.
Here is an up close look at the bolt face. The bulge in the fired primer seems to be created from the champfer in the bolt...
If you are looking for a good, solid first revolver - I would vote to go Ruger... even a used Security Six will likely outlast you and your kids. I picked up a couple in solid shape to pack on the tractor out in the fields.
Ground hogs do not stand a chance now!

My vote would be to look at the Rugers... either the Security Six or a GP100. Best guns for the money (my 2-cents worth anyway).
I like my Security-Six very much - both of them!
S&W, Colt, Ruger all make good quality guns... I have different likes and dislikes for all of them. However...
