My Saiga's pretty great. When I got it it had trouble feeding low-brass stuff, but I worked over a couple of the usual problem areas on them and now it's about 99% on feeding stuff (every 100 rounds might give me 1 or 2 FTE's). I'm happy with it now, but some day I might convert it to not use...
That's what I was thinking. With Kel-Tec's rep for not keeping up with demand very well I figured that they'd probably have enough to actually sell in about a year or so. That'll be when I take a good look at them.
Thread from the dead!
I'm not sure if anyone else has seen this yet, but it's a video taken at the SHOT show showing off some of the features and disassembly of the KSG. Looks neat at least, but I think I'm gonna wait to see some reviews and whether or not aftermarket companies will start...
This seems pretty neat. I like some of these "think outside the box" inventions, even if they are trying to make solutions for problems that don't really exist. If they fashioned a system for Saiga shotguns I'd give it a second look.
I wasn't really impressed by it. They were acting as if that was the first time anybody had tried putting a suppressor on a shotgun. That, and the whole Master Key thing was little silly. I would rather have the proven Remington stuff.
Saigas are still cool though!
From what I've read, it seems that the BATF is going after imported shotguns with bayonet lugs on them, like the Norinco Model 97. Still kind of stupid, but I have yet to see a anything stating that Saigas are going to get restricitions.
It seems like this is more of an issue of learning how to use the weapon instead of being a big "flaw".
EDIT: I'm sure that if the KSG gets popular enough, the aftermarket will start making parts to let you make you function how you want it to.
What about the AKM? I coulda sworn that they would have been happy with that update to the platform? It happened a long time ago, but it's been pretty proven to work well...
I don't know which one I'd want more between this or the STG-44 they're supposed to be making for .22 as well. Either way, just looking at them makes my wallet hurt...
Hopefully this won't change anything that's already in place. The first comment left on that page brought up a good point that this might be concerning shotguns that are manufactured as AOWs or without a stock of some sort. I'm not keeping my fingers crossed that that's the only thing they'd be...
Bullpup shotguns aren't really a new thing, but with the new light that's been put on a few models of them, what are people's thoughts on them? I think they can work pretty well as PDW's, but mostly when they're designed from the start to be bullpups. I can't say I'd really trust a Saiga bullpup...
Hopefully this thing ends up working well. Who knows? If it gets popular enough, maybe aftermarket companies can start making parts for them (mostly certain things out of metal instead of composite so people wouldn't start worrying about durability and quality).
I'd go for the 20-round magazine if given the choice. For the price of one of the 12-rounders I picked up 3 high-quality 10-round mags for the same price.
Since we're doing hypothetical stuff, I'm going with "other" simply because I have a Saiga 12 with plenty of ammo and a big variety of different shells. It seems like a shotgun would be one of the better all purpose weapons you could get (not saying it's best at everything, but they can cover...
Great review! I'm glad you mentioned all of the modifications you've done to yours...it reminded me that I've got work to do! *Dives into gun closet with a buffing tool*
