You just have to try one. They are comfortable to shoot, are accurate enough, and I think several people mentioned cost-effective. Well-made, interesting, and if you know what you're looking for you can find some real tack drivers. Get a Finn. They've had Sako barrels put on them and are...
The other thing you have to keep in mind is how bureaucratic decision making works. First, it is easier to not make a decision than to make one. Second, you're trying to meet many conflicting demands. Third, whatever new decision you make will have its own drawbacks. I think it does say...
What are you planning to hunt? I can't say I've been overly impressed with airgun hunting. I have an older Webley air rifle, 177 caliber, 850 FPS and usually it takes a few shots to get a squirrel to even look over at me. The 22s are supposed to be better, and I know the newer guns are higher...
The trick is to get her to try it. Most women I've taught to shoot have liked it and are often quite good at it. Definitely start with a 22. If the first experience is bad there won't be a second one. Is she competetive? Usually, they love to show us up. The suggestions about finding other...
I also have a Lee turret. The 2 things I like are not having to screw in and out dies (or check the adjustment) when I change calibers, and you can run several steps on a case by just rotating the turret and re-pressing. It saves on case handling time. When I do pistol brass, I pretty much do...
Are you saying you have had problems with seating, or you're just worried you might? I use the ballistic tips quite a bit and really haven't had any problems. Perhaps I'm using a seater that contacts the "meplat" rather than the tip, but I've never checked. If you haven't checked your meplat...
I have a buddy with a Dillon and it is a sweet machine, but like you I have a hard time justifying that much money. Just about all of my reloading equipment is Lee and I really like most of it. I don't have the Pro 1000 so can't speak to that, but 2 of the posts hit on the 2 critical things...
I didn't read all the posts, so sorry if I repeat what another said. Its not the Lee equipment. I've used it for years and its fine. I've had the problem you describe, but I tend to use a lot of mixed (and old) headstamp brass. I believe it is the case wall thickness at the neck and I...
I'll give a try.
1) I feel the FBI will probably always know a lot more than I will about terminal ballistics. For me this would be a good reference.
2) FMJ bullets were designed for the military to be compliant with Geneva Convention rules to keep antagonistic soldiers from hurting each...
How can you tell if nickle is hard on your dies? I use plenty of nickle brass for my .45 and I guess I haven't noticed any differences. Some of it does split, but I assumed it was because it was brass my Dad started loading in the 1950s and eventually passed onto me! Hate to think how many...
You'd have to work pretty hard to find something that doesn't shoot well in a .308. I've used IMR 4064, Hodgon BLC-2, and Win 748 with Hornady ballistic tips (125 and 150 gr), and bulk Remington or Winchester softpoint bullets, and they all shoot well. I use 18 gr IMR 4227 with a 160 gr cast...
The case mouth wasn't cracked, was it? You didn't say so, so probably not. I'd guess the bullet/case mouth seal wasn't good. Every now and then I'll find finished cartridges where the bullet is really loose. Sometimes a little extra crimp will fix it, sometimes it won't. I haven't gone to...
Black bear aren't actually that much bigger than a deer and aren't as heavily muscled as a grizzly. You can use anything good on deer for a black bear. Having said that, I'd also pick something on the heavier and sturdier side as the others have stated. 150 grain would be heavy enough. For...
There is no good deal on plinker ammo. This is the ammo AND reloading forum. Get yourself a Lee turret press and powder measure with dies, some lead bullets, a low volume powder like Bullseye, AA#2, Clays, etc. and you'll be shooting at about a third of the price of any factory ammo.
Anyone ever try to hit anything holding the gun sideways, "gangsta" style? I don't get the point of that.
Any time someone gets shot and flys back a few feet. I've never been in combat so I can't attest to what people do, but deer and squirrels seem to absorb the kinetic energy of a bullet...
Cap and ball cartridge conversions
Yup. While I can't attest to the accuracy of that movie, there were cartridge conversions of cap and ball revolvers. I'll bet you Clint knew what he was doing on that one. :twocents:
I'm a big fan of the Lee collett die. Any time I can use it over FLS I do that. I can't actually say I can tell the difference in accuracy, but I'm not a BR shooter. I just like if for ease of use and case life. No lubrication or clean-up needed and easy on the elbow.
I have a P90 in 45 ACP and my Dad used to have the P94. The accuracy on the P94 was just terrible. 4-5" groups. The P90 is about 2" Everything I've read on the 2 guns has said pretty much the same thing. So I don't know if the P944 improved on the accuracy, but I'd go for the P90 in 45...
